  • This is a highly subsidized pipe dream; just the battery pack alone costs at least this (20kWh) wholesale without a BMS. And a modern Mini is filled to the brim with CAN communication which is very time consuming (expensive) to get working.

  • Yes, clearly subsidized......replacing an IC vehicle with an electric one.

There are better ways of spending that money then selling a €30,000 product (parts and labour) for €5,000. Better public transport for instance.

Retrofitting old IC cars strikes me as a pretty poor use of resources.

Yes and no; saves a lot of energy if you don’t need to build a complete car. But it will still be an older car.

Innit, especially classics that'll do <1,000 miles a year.

Classic cars are playthings for people with money and / or a lot of time on their hands. It’s a good thing they do it but let them pay for it out of their own pocket. A lot of the time they will do a lot more miles after the conversion because the car is more usable when electric. We just had a customer swing by with his converted E-Type and he does 500km days every other weekend. And another customer did 15,000km last year with his electric T3 (T25) camper van driving around Scandinavia, and he is now roaming around Portugal and Spain.

Converting older cars makes no sense financially whatsoever; people do it because they have a special bond / interest with / in the car and they feel they need to use it in a greener way. Or because it makes them ff’in fast 😅
