€5k for a conversion sounds like a pretty good deal.

Any suggestions for a (un-tethered) home charger......or are they all pretty much the same?
-
• #1504
We have both an Eo Mini tethered and untethered and they’ve been great. No complaints.

Thanks

Got an EO untethered also, found it cheaper actually going through EOcharging.com for the survey and installation as well.

This is a highly subsidized pipe dream; just the battery pack alone costs at least this (20kWh) wholesale without a BMS. And a modern Mini is filled to the brim with CAN communication which is very time consuming (expensive) to get working.

Yes, clearly subsidized......replacing an IC vehicle with an electric one.

Retrofitting old IC cars strikes me as a pretty poor use of resources.

Innit, especially classics that'll do <1,000 miles a year.

There are better ways of spending that money then selling a €30,000 product (parts and labour) for €5,000. Better public transport for instance.

Yes and no; saves a lot of energy if you don’t need to build a complete car. But it will still be an older car.

Classic cars are playthings for people with money and / or a lot of time on their hands. It’s a good thing they do it but let them pay for it out of their own pocket. A lot of the time they will do a lot more miles after the conversion because the car is more usable when electric. We just had a customer swing by with his converted E-Type and he does 500km days every other weekend. And another customer did 15,000km last year with his electric T3 (T25) camper van driving around Scandinavia, and he is now roaming around Portugal and Spain.
Converting older cars makes no sense financially whatsoever; people do it because they have a special bond / interest with / in the car and they feel they need to use it in a greener way. Or because it makes them ff’in fast 😅

Been meaning to post this for a few weeks but kept forgetting. Just makes me want one more.
Only problem is pretty much every aspect wouldn't suit. But I'd love it.

Since 2021 apparently

Pretty much the only car I can think of in the last ~30 years which I really love the look of. Don't think I'd get one though.

Range is abysmal, shame would be quite happy with an e-version of my jazz
-
• #1519
40 grand for a hundred mile range, absolute steal.

And this is why I'm sticking with my 2007 VW touran on 168k. I'd love a new car but the price and or ranges of EVs are non compliant to my lifestyle/salary

Cheapskate EV update..
Newish onboard charger, water pump 1 and water pump 2 fitted to elderly Leaf this week. Price of new parts is eye watering. Parts bought on eBay! Managed to find an indie to do the work in Glasgow area.

Nissan Leaf arrived today from the NHS lease scheme; e-pedal "one pedal" driving is so good for stop-y start-y stuff. N-Connecta spec alloys are quite jazzy too.

From not actually owning a car for 30 years I did not realise the absolute minefield of different parking regimes per council.
I work on Camden/Westminster border and Westminster have an absolutely mad 96% discount on street parking by phone where you pay 10 minutes for an EV and get 4 hours, whilst Camden discounts nada.
-
• #1524
Yep EV parking in Westminster is a massive boon.

It does seem I could drive to work and park the whole day for £1.96 or something, moving the car at lunchtime to another bay.
If you've a newer mini, it's over 5 years old and registered in France.....
