  • Thanks. I like the idea of these motors but I also like using my own cranks…

  • Meh. Not that fussed. Bikes a lump anyways. Will probs switch out for Shimano at some point.

  • Got a weird 2 pin juliet connector in a bike. Does anyone know what this is? For lights?

  • How much are people paying for a Swytch kit?
From what I can see, "60% OFF" is shown but we all know that no-one will by at full RRP.
The Universal Kit with MAX Power Pack £574 + a very spicy UK specialist shipping service of £50.

    £624

  • That's what I paid, I suspect it has gone up recently as I read fairly recent articles where it seemed to be around the £500 mark. They claim the punchy shipping is because the battery pack is too large (capacity) to be sent by standard courier but it is still pretty pricey.

I ummed and ahhed a fair bit with it being more than I expected but it still seemed a cheaper and more flexible option than getting a dedicated electric bike.

This was my thinking too. @Vince

  • Have the earlier model, i think part of it is its a great way to get into an ebike where everything is all together (much better integration than a standard "kit you buy online.) however now having put together a a few other ebikes... its really not that hard but daunting at first.

  • I got this in Aug '21 and paid this much:

    Universal eBike Conversion Kit - ECO - Web Tester Discount - 50% off + 50 £449
Universal ECO Kit - 35km range - Silver Wheel
    Reward Total £449
    Shipping £30
Paid on Website Orders - GBP Tax -£479

It's the first round kit with the bigger battery but I'm pleased with it as a kit. It's on an 80's steel frame & fork and is holding up well in terms of safety of fork, charge rate and range.

Edit: I also found this in my emails and remember you have to take photos and do a video walk round of your kit installation for the warranty. Not a major brain ache, but a thing to take into consideration:

Anyone seen the price for adding additional max batteries?

  • Not cheap.

  • eeesh. Puts it in either Cytronex C1 or dedicated bafang build prices.

  • Cytronex C1

Thanks for flagging this up - I will look at that system for my cargo bike

Curious to what you think. It claims to have a decent range based on being efficient. It looks to be the current winner for quick on/off the bike with only a single sensor on the casette. Also like that you can sign a waver for a US version ;)

On other products, the latest email from Skarper makes it sound like every kickstarter ever.. it's a long way off, like 2024.

    "When will it be available?"
My answer is - we don't have an exact date yet as we are in the process of testing our design to ensure it meets our high standard and your expectations. Later this year we will provide more details when the first production batch of Skarper will be available to pre-order.

  • We ordered a Swytch kit for the wife’s Pashley, so we will need a front brake solution.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • My buddy who had his stolen a couple of years ago is in the same quandary as he went out and bought a bike on kijiji with the wrong fork in anticipation of ordering a new kit. Maybe get a fork with posts for cantilevers/v-brakes.

  • Reminder about potential issue of battery fires. Not meant to steer people away, just be careful where you buy bikes/parts from (article on fires from Wall Street Journal)

  • Braze on Canti studs… Or new fork ?

Quite like the look of this one, I’d just check the A-C is similar. Would mean you can fit a front disc too if you were inclined..

  • Thanks, I googled on another forum that someone solved the problem with a canti brake, we’d rather avoid changing the fork if we can

  • I have been in touch with Green Cell who provide a range of batteries for e-bikes.

They have a solution for my MPFDRIVE e-assist (since BMZ no longer produces the batteries & the dead stocks are about £800 a pop).

MPFDRIVE themselves are proposing an alternative at 599€ (see data attached).

GC are after the equivalent of £200 for a new battery, the mount and the charger - so worth a punt in my situation

  • about the brake.... If you're not going to change the fork the best option I see is to use a side pull caliper brake. It'll bolt, with a single bolt through the hole the mudguard fixes too.
Your wheel currently looks to have braking surfaces, not like a westwood wheel, and I imagine your new swytch wheel will have too. A brake like this would do it .

  • Any recommendations for a front light? It's to replace a Spanninga Axendo 40 on an Urban Arrow, 48V Bosch system.

  • Thanks so much for replying.

The new Swytch wheel will definitely have a braking surface so I think your solution will work.

  • Busch and muller IQ X if you want top performance. Busch and muller IQ XS if you want an excellent light that’s good value. Just make sure you get the e-bike versions.

  • Partner going back and forth on e-options. My preference was using their existing bike and getting the crytonex c1 (~£1,200) but they have range anxiety (180wh battery). Have also said I can build up a Bafang m250 onto a donor bike, they are still keen on a buying something ready to go with warranty, etc.

Commute is 32miles there and back. Any strong opinions on these or other suggestions. Battery must be easily removable for charging.
