How are the gaps around the edges filled? Slivers of plasterboard/mesh?

I think the more neutral the better in that kitchen, so matt white square tiles with light grout

Worth pointing out that practically speaking tiles, or more to the point - grout, is a fairly shit choice behind a hob for cleaning.

What about stainless to match the appliances and handles?

This is very much the challenge.

If you’re determined to tile up to the bottom of the wall units I’d shift the offending socket to the right, to the centre of the wine rack.

But the upstand idea feels neater to me. I’d do the hob splash back in worktop material too tho, keeps it simple.

Stainless behind the hob all the way to the extractor filling the space and then upstand to match the worktop everywhere else.

I thought so too. Acid etched I guess, and the special white glass not the green one. Needs to be toughened too.

Thanks everyone else for the suggestions - all good food for thought. I've got such bad decision fatigue from the whole project, I've pretty much ran out of steam on the walls/splashback.

Will go to some shops and have a look. SS behind the hob was vetoed by my partner as apparently it looks like a public toilet (assuming an NZ one as that hadn't occurred to me), white surface-type material could be a goer though. We'll see.

It looks beautiful. Also very impressed with how quickly this has all happened. It's been two years since my toilet started leaking and I still haven't replaced it.
