He's not a Tory. He claims to be non-partisan, an independent thinker critical of news sources. It's possible he doesn't even vote. But coincidentally he tends strongly towards the views of the daily mail and Sky News talking heads (the ones on the right).
But it's no big deal, I try not to argue so it's momentary awkwardness. We get along pretty well and are very alike in many aspects.

That's good. BB (before Boris), my mum and I would have a strained relationship on some key areas of fairness, society etc. I think post him (and covid) she's moved a lot further to the centre and our relationship is immeasurably better for it. I really struggled to reconcile what I knew to be a really kind person to me (and the rest of the family) with her views on broader topics.
I'm sorry you have to deal with that.
My mum has been a Tory forever (more actually a despiser of Labour than a lover of Tory) but she's vowed never to vote for them again since Boris got in (she didn't vote for him either).
I don't think she can quite bring herself to vote red but there's still time.
Maybe there's hope for your dad too...
