  • Bit of both. This will have been the creative team at BK though.

  • Will BK have influenced the text of the headline to maximise the impact of their advert? Genuine question, and iirc you work in advertising.

  • The mention of 'grilled'?

Highly unlikely. They will have had assurances that the front page will be about Boris but not the headline / content etc.

  • I really fancy a bk though

  • Ha!

  • I’m watching the privileges committee comedy show. Boris loves thanking people

  • It's great to see. I guess maybe a QT audience are those more likely to show an interest in politics and so, even as tory voters, can see how much of a liar he really is.

The 'man on the street' may still think he's the best person for the job...

  • Or they can hold their nose because some other agenda or prejudice they hold is more important to them.

  • What's the makeup of the audience that they refer to I wonder - is it proportionate to the number of MPs in each party?

  • Nah, I think they were just in an area of the country that's more tory than labour.

  • At the last election. Historically, Newcastle-under-Lyme was a safe Labour seat.

  • Fair point - had no idea where it actually was. Just assumed that's what she was referring to.

That last election was largely a referendum on Boris' popularity though so interesting that it's him that can't raise a single hand in support.

  • Next time I visit my dad will insist on telling me how BJ is obviously the best man for the job and was only saying what he was advised / for the public good. And how Braverman is doing such a good job. And how it's the striking junior doctors' fault the NHS is having a hard time. Etc.

  • I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

My mum has been a Tory forever (more actually a despiser of Labour than a lover of Tory) but she's vowed never to vote for them again since Boris got in (she didn't vote for him either).

I don't think she can quite bring herself to vote red but there's still time.

Maybe there's hope for your dad too...

  • Xmas must be fun.

Mine is party neutral, but hates Blair for Iraq and Brown for deregulation. Which is fine. But in 2023 after this absolute shower of cunts destroying everything about this country peice-by-peice doesn't seem very relevant.

  • I think Iraq is relevant, 20 years on, 1mil civilians dead, factional violence and turmoil all over the region; moreover the way us/uk undermined and blatantly lied to the un is having a massive impact on the war in ukraine, acts of impunity as well as the UN’s total weakness as regards instigating the radical change we need to ameliorate climate catastrophe, despite its messaging

  • we are in the post-truth anti democratic place we are in because of iraq. edit. i still wouldn’t have had the tories in instead in 97, just to say

  • hates Blair for Iraq and Brown for deregulation

Mine associate Brown with "selling all our Gold". I suspect that if you looked into it it would pale in comparison of cost versus what any Tory has since done but they're adament that it is important; it's never really got near my radar to be honest.

  • Sorry, I didn't mean to trivialise Iraq.

  • He's not a Tory. He claims to be non-partisan, an independent thinker critical of news sources. It's possible he doesn't even vote. But coincidentally he tends strongly towards the views of the daily mail and Sky News talking heads (the ones on the right).

But it's no big deal, I try not to argue so it's momentary awkwardness. We get along pretty well and are very alike in many aspects.

  • We get along pretty well and are very alike in many aspects.

That's good. BB (before Boris), my mum and I would have a strained relationship on some key areas of fairness, society etc. I think post him (and covid) she's moved a lot further to the centre and our relationship is immeasurably better for it. I really struggled to reconcile what I knew to be a really kind person to me (and the rest of the family) with her views on broader topics.

  • Ah yeah. We're somewhat at opposite ends of most "areas of fairness, society etc". But we're similar characters and very physically alike. We get along if we avoid topics of conversation - which I'm more aware of than him. Ideally we'd discuss things and understand each others point of view but we're both really fucking argumentative as well so that isn't very realistic.
