  • after struggling to fit a rear derailleur, i am now worrying that the threading on the hanger is a bit fucked. does anyone know where i could get this rethreaded and how much it is likely to cost? (the hanger is non-removable and the threads just look a little messed up, not completely stripped). thanks!

  • Would screwing the derailleur in from the other side tidy up the messy threads, allowing you to refit it on the correct side?*

If any doubt tho head straight to LBS or Platt Bike Hub mechanics.

    • don't take this as a solution, just a possible solution looking for an expert view ;)
  • thanks rhb, i will give that a go.

the folks that run the platt fields bike hub are really useful, so if plan a doesn't work then they'll be my plan b.

  • unfortunately when i threaded the derailleur bolt from the other side it wasn't long enough to sort out the fucked threading.

however, i bought some m10 x 55mm bolts from halfords and, after screwing the bolt in from both sides, i am pleased to say that the threads are sorted. hallelujah!

  • Woot!

If you or anyone else needs stuff doing then we have free repairs and parts at the bike hub as part of the Big Bike Revival, did 40 bikes yesterday and hope to do more this coming Sunday.

  • @neddos Cool glad it worked as a diy fix in the end.

  • @snottyotter I'm not around this weekend :( such a shame as I need someone to do all the difficult cabling. I have passed this information on though. People I know are always trying to enlist my help with mending their bikes. Just because I ride one it doesn't mean that I can fix one!

  • Can always pop over any Friday (except this one) to pay Dave to fix it or any Saturday to do it yourself with a bit of help at toolclub.

  • V.Good curry options central / nq that aren't just 3 curry rice fast food places?

Realised I have only eaten curry in Dids/Cho area since living here but am hosting a visitor next week and this bit is essential before we head out of town.

  • My friend (who eats a lot of curry) is always raving about Akbar's near MOSI.

  • Ta.

Any others nearer the Crown & Kettle / Port Street anyone?

  • Sylwia and @Dangeruss both recommended somewhere around that way... can't remember what it's called though, might have been a takeaway too...

  • Is that the little 3 curries and rice place? I had a nice 1130am curry there last week although probably not the sort of place your after.

  • Yeah ideally sit down, take time, choice of fresh prepared dishes. A bit spoilt having Corrianders so close to home.

There's a time & a place for 3 Rice & Curry, as the night drifts on we may well hit that spot.

  • Epic dredge. Locksmith recommendations s.mcr anyone know of a reliable one please?

P.s. many the invader mosaics that prompted this thread are still in place fwiw. [/csb]

  • Update: ^ https://www.locksmiths.co.uk/find-a-locksmith/ is the key to sorting lock problems I've discovered.
