Anyone bought one of these seatposts? Wondering whether the price falls into the "too good to be true" bracket
-
• #13104
I'll check what the one I bought for my dad cost and if its available now, but iirc it was a similar price and aok.
Ultimately it's a massive Ti tube. As long as the dia is correct it'll be fine.
His had a normal clamp rather than the bso one Brompton favour and it wasn't flared. I never had an issue with the lack of flare - partly because it's not rocket science to not pull it all the way out, and because lately I added a bit of tape at the correct height for my dad to make getting the hight right easier.

It was J&L Ultra light Titanium Seatpost £71.99
But now they're identical to the one you posted and ~£80

Had an 80 quid Ti Post of the bay which was ok!
Got my eye on one now that doesn't use a pentaclip. -

Great, thanks both. Looks an easy upgrade to the standard C line I've just picked up. Now to debate whether the oilslick variety is a little too outre on a matt black build

I have it too - agree with all the above - rarely remove it from the bike - love it.

Whats the best bag for the standard rear rack?
-

I've been using the Brompton one for the last couple of years. I works well the way it's secured and can carry a decent amount. Seems pretty reliably waterproof based on a few soakings.
Never tried any alternatives though.

how much do you need to carry?
-
• #13112
Not sure- but I’m often away for a couple of nights and finding it tough to squeeze everything into my O bag
-
• #13113
Maybe look at one of the roll top bags, the O Bag isn't particularly big and doesn't carry much compared to the old Touring pannier or the newer Borough 28 ltr bag
-
• #13114
Oh interesting! I’ve got lower S bars so always thought I was restricted by that but I see the 28 litre Borough works with all handlebars. You’re right that’s quite a bit bigger than the O bag at 20 litres. This rain cover stuff is so annoying though- why isn’t stuff just waterproof?
-
• #13115
The old touring pannier shouldn't be used with S bars. in reality its because the brake/gear cables catch on the plastic handle on the top of the bag.
Doesn't really bother me and I use one on my S type, you just need to be aware of it and keep an eye on you cable outers (wrap some tape around where they rub).

I've cut the handle off my frame and if I need to carry the bag I use the shoulder strap.

I think the current 'Borough Roll Top' is "water resistant". 28 litre capacity and £150ish.
Then there's the newer 'Borough Waterproof' which is "waterproof as the name suggests. Smaller capacity at 25 litres and closer to £200... only available in Navy Blue I think. -

I have this, its too big for most people's daily use IMO

Restrap Brompton is a good option.

Agreed.
Ticks the boxes of "waterproof" and "large volume" though. -

I have this one.
Its GREAT but I guess not always enough.
To me, it's a Brompton laptop bag which can get a few other bits in it.I'm in the market for a slightly larger option.
The freedom to be casual in your route and journey plans that comes with a Brompton, coupled with the ability to pop in the shops and use it as a trolley is amazing. It means I'm often volunteering to grab a loaf of bread or something on the way home or run errands that I might not always be equipped for... so yeah, I'm not touring or anything but I need a Brompton specific bag that can do a laptop and some "bits" and then unfurl enough to be able to get four pints of milk in and a Chinese for two y'know?
At the minute, there's Brompton in our house and soon to be another but we've only got one Restrap bag... any excuse to buy another thing. I've got a rack with a Wizard Works Shazam attached to it with a few voile straps which I think is an improvement, expands from around 10-20 litres which is great but only "water resistant".
It's tricky business picking a bag!

If you have a spare rack, I’ve hooked up a Carradice longflap to great effect for exactly this. Cotton duck so waterproof (but always double-bag anyway) Plus, I think they look better than any plastic-y offering especially after a bit of use!

• #13123
I think we've done the same thing but wit different bags.
I'll share a pic later on.

What sort of pressures are people running on their Bromptons? I usually go rock hard but am starting to think I don’t need to with these Conti tyres.
A sidewall split on my front and I nursed around for a couple of days on lower pressure With a bodged tyre patch whilst waiting for a replacement to arrive. Didn’t really feel slower or worse at 65psi. -

Was the waterproof bag on a Brompton last night and it is massive!!
Only dislike is the blue colour…
I am just too shameless, I never fold the bike even when I am supposed to because fuck them. That has shaped my outlook of 'bromptons dont need to be light as you dont need to carry them folded that much'.
