  • I get maybe 50 emails a day with releases, so probably look through 400 titles a day and make a list for a weekly order.

I do also buy things from Discogs very occasionally but my wantlist is pretty small. Basically have no budget left by the time I've ordered all the new stuff!

  • Not sure how Juno and Royal Mail have lost a package between NW1 and SE13 posted two weeks ago today, but I appear to be getting free replacements so inevitably the original parcel will show up imminently.

  • Juno used to have such a trigger happy replacement policy. I once emailed to enquire if they had sent the right record as the tracklisting seemed different to the record I received and I got an email back quickly saying a replacement had been posted out. It's a bit tighter now though and they've asked me to wait on a couple records that hadn't turned up after a week

This guy's reviews! 5 records in his collection but over 1500 reviews. I've only scratched the surface.

  • He's reviewed quite a lot of records I have so I've been having a laugh at his antics for a while. Definitely a talent.

  • excellent - i enjoyed this one:

When this one is played, you will hear a sashaying beat that is almost reminiscent of "Rock Your Baby" by the mighty GEORGE McCRAE. And when you are hearing this, you will start to bop. And then you will realize, that you are not to be glued to the spot. As you will be grooving around your living room, like an absolute monarch!!

  • He's done a whole load on the Soopastole label featuring his Mum and her boyfriend :-

I distinctly remember when I played this to my mam for the first time. To begin with, she was very pleased to hear Labi Siffre's sweet soulful vocals, and started to tap her foot along to the groovy beat. But then the bit that Dr. Dre sampled suddenly came on and she flew into a furious rage, thinking that I had tricked her into listening to Eminem (who she abhors because of his bad language and flagrant disregard for our lord and saviour, Jesus Christ the Redeemer). However, just as she was about to tear the needle off the record and have her toyboy Gavin thrash me to within an inch of my life, Labi's vocals thankfully kicked back in and she realized the error of her ways. Oh, how we all laughed!!

  • Brilliant!

  • Juno sent their replacement orders out 24 hour next day tracked so I have my choonz now.

  • Nice, I ordered this yesterday. Missed it first time around and was quite pricey on discogs, didn't realise it had been re-issued.

  • So many good releases on Deep Medi.

  • Going back to the discussion about the price of vinyl, I stumbled across a new track Friday and it is only available on 7" with the original on one side and a version on the other. It was £14.50. I ended up buying it because I really liked it but it wasn't until I was out riding yesterday that I realised how ludicrous it is for 7" singles to be that sort of price now.

I would add that I had drunk a couple of glasses of wine Friday night and that may have clouded my judgement.

  • 7" don't seem to be selling as much as a consequence of the price and also availability streaming.

  • I once went to one of their nights and and when I got there it was a wedding reception. I dunno if the venue had double booked or the wedding reception had over ran, but they were playing with the bride and groom and all the wedding guests there.

  • Bloody hell, that must have shaken granny's dentures!

  • Yeah it was pretty weird, the bride and groom were in their 50s from memory. Plenty of dentures rattled I imagine.

  • Can anyone else not stand coloured vinyl?

  • The devil’s work. I’d pay extra for black if the coloured stuff was presented as the less desirable option

  • Visit on friday to Decktronix in Rochester, Kent. If you want jungle/DnB/garage/house vinyl this is your place!

Labi Siffre should have done well in royalties from samples. @Airhead I’m assuming this was the track you were referring to, packed with break beats.

  • Anyone know of any good record shops in Lisbon? Visiting there and fancy doing some shopping.

Some great looking spots. Heading there myself in September, although with two kids so not sure how much time I’ll get to indulge myself. Keen to hear how you get on!

  • Wonderful, thanks! There seem to be a lot of Portuguese sellers on Discogs, so I’m travelling optimistically.
