Motorcycle helmets do work, no?
Same answer as bicycle helmets; they have some benefit in some situations. The main difference is that the very strong, hard, continuous shell and greater coverage provides much better protection against abrasion and intrusion. The protection against shock deceleration is only slightly better, essentially in proportion to the greater distance from the shell to the skull.
If you crash like a racer, sliding and tumbling over a fairly flat surface without coming to a sudden stop, motorcycle helmets will usually spare you completely from a lot of minor head and face injuries.
