  • This is probably exactly what non bike people want.

  • Tbh, I don't mind it - it actually looks decent for what it is. Just wish I had the space for this kind of bike in my life

  • I don't mind it either.

  • For sure. I didnt like the idea of 3 wheel cargo bikes until we had one. Stuff like this needs to exist more to get people out of cars. Really only issue is the size means you need a garage or they live outside.

  • If you order through your local LarryvsHarry dealer, they will be able to give you a UK price

  • £3,999 for a cargo bike?! How a new kind of class politics arrived on Britain’s streets I wish a brand new Urban Arrow cost just £4k!

As a happy owner of an Urban Arrow, I guess I'm a member of the new bourgeois.

  • My first thought was £3999 seems a bit cheap for a cargo bike. Whatabout-ism etc but I know normies who have spent £6-£10k on second cars for 1 mile journeys.

  • Does anyone have recommendations for a wheelbuilder for cargo bike wheels?

I have ordered a replacement rear hub from Enviolo (as my Nuvinci N380 has done its time) - went for the EXTREME hub: https://orders.enviolo.com/collections/hubs
I have personally enjoyed my time with the N380 - not sure why it gets a lot of stick from everyone.

    I need a strong 36h rim 26"and a the strong Sapin spokes.

I have used this company to get spokes in the past but it's a bit of a pain to send it all there & back tbh:

  • I had my 20" front dynamo wheel built by Paradise. Can't recommend them enough tbh

  • Arup posted on gram building a rear hub motor wheel also

  • arkane - Brockley

  • Impressive. But no chance am i bringing homemade ebike batteries into my house.

  • Adrian Chiles is a prick and dials in those 400 words for a pay check each however often. His partner is very senior at the guardian, so it’s a bit of who you know to get a little bit extra money in the pocket. He’s the most tedious columnist.

  • From memory that's someone on here that runs it? It's super close to me so will enquire

  • not sure why it gets a lot of stick from everyone

They are ok for light use. not the nicest to use or work on by a long way but OK and fairly cheap if you use them within their capacity.

They may have ironed out these problems but if you were lugging weights up hills in manageable gears with powerful mid drive motors (see all modern cargo bikes) you would drastically shorten their life. and once they break internally there's nothing to be done except warranty the hub and get a new one.

  • They still have not sorted their freewheels mechanism though and are still on 3 pawls ones.

  • Amen. I saw this come around on the viral news sites like Pocket. Why is it news exactly? Boomer in bootcut jeans doesn't realise how much a common mode of transport costs today. Big fucking deal.

  • Wait till he finds out about c2w.

  • TO where? UK, they won't ship, or to any country that has a dealer network within it.

If you've got a Danish friend.... Or just take the ferry and buy one there then bring it back. If you get a shimano steps motor then you'll be wanting a warranty, buying from Denmark means you'll be exporting the motor and paying customs to get it infront of Shimano Nordic as Madison won't be helping!

  • Me.
Alex Supra 26" is sup welded joint, very high quality alloy, was their 26" DH/Enduro rim from back in the day. Rigida/ Ryde do a 26" of solid quality aswell, not quite as good an alloy and pin jointed, but they are heavy load rated and built about 4 of them now which haven't immediately exploded during cargo use!
DT don't make anything decent in 26", there is the old 533d, but only in 32h I think, they are OK for about £25/30 but the Alex Supra is better.
Spokes, yeah get some Sapim strong from Ryan, not sure if e-strong (which are a grade beefier) will fit in a Nuvinci, but I know Saprim strongs definitely do fit and work well.

  • I wish decent cargo's were only £4k. In 2023 your going to be parting with £5-8k for most of them! And none at those price points have boutique or very high end parts, just pretty standard!

An average Ford Focus has gone from about £18.5k to £27k in only 2 or 3 years, thats more of a surprise really given the difference in economies of scale between a very common hatch back and a niche product within a niche market.

  • Martin. He used to build wheels for me, he's brilliant.

  • @BrickMan Tern service question for you. The shop I bought from wants £195+VAT for service (😂). What does this entail for the GSD?

Its a belt drive, rohloff one. I regularly clean the bike and replace brake pads myself, I will be doing the rohloff oil change as well.

Although I could; my LBS can service the fork.

The only thing i'll be left with is the 'service' message on the display.

I just refuse to pay that kind of money to this shop, I'll happily pay my LBS.
