  • That looks fantastic. I agree about the stem, an oversize looks wrong proportionately, I had Waltly make my OS stem because the design is smaller than most.

  • Don't get another Thomson. Put a Ti post on it.

  • ^this

  • Very tidy. For aesthetics I’d also go titanium seatpost, but given you’re riding (retro?) carbon rims, gators and alu bars, maybe a carbon stem to take the edge off the road buzz?

But maybe comfort should take second place to looks :)

  • Any serotta in size L for sale?

  • I have a CX bike I’d part with for the right money, should be some photographs of it in this thread somewhere

  • The yellow one?

  • Yep

  • I bought a Custom Ti on here a while ago and I’m starting to build it up. Got the 105 group set bargain, a Ti seatpost off eBay, and parts bin stuff.

What I’m not sure about is the stem. I’m not even sure how stems work, or whether I need a quill or what. I just measured the hole (technical term) and it was about 26.6 mm across.

What what you recommend I do please? Links to solutions welcome! I have bars.

  • Do you have the top part of the Chris king headset?
And what fork do you have for it?
You don't need a quill stem unless you have a threaded fork.

  • I think these bikes suit quill stems more than Ahead, but as Phil says the fork will dictate what you run.

  • Ah yes. Have the fork and the rest of the CK. looks like this. So assume I need an ‘ahead’ stem rather than a quill then?

    Thanks for the help both.

  • Exactly right!
    If it's a 1" fork, you'll need a shim for a 1-1/8" stem

  • Wow, let’s see the rest of that please?

  • This was a picture from the original owner (on here). I bought F&F (different matching forks).

(And if I’d dug this out earlier I would have spotted what sort of stem I needed…).

  • Lovely, very jealous

  • I could be very jealous if it was a tad bigger. That’s a beaut!
(If anyone is parting with a 58 to 60 keep me up, could even trade with a 62 ti)

  • Thinking of selling mine (57 tho): https://www.lfgss.com/comments/16827965/

I actually really love the ride of it but unexpected costs force me to sell some of my stuff.

  • Heart accelerates. What's the saddle height as pictured?

  • 77,5 cm from the heart of the BB axle to top of saddle. I'm 1,82 m tall.

  • Groupset is a mixture of Chorus 10 speed (brifters, BB and hubs) and Record (front and rear derailleur, brake calipers and crankset). Seatpost also from Campagnolo, Mavic Sup Ceramic rims, Flite "Alpes" saddle. Built it 2 months ago and have ridden it 3 times so nearly new chain, cables, tape.

  • Thanks, I'll keep refreshing and looking at it. One day, one day.

  • Willing to sell just the frameset too. Enough other frames to put the parts on. :-)

  • More about the Serotta or about the other frames? One of these "other frames" is this Carrera my youngest son wants me to keep at least untill he's tall enough to ride it.
