  • Cheers will check it out!

  • Anyone had an Iveco Daily swb or mwb (L1H2 or L2H2) 2000-2009 sort of shape, the older battleship style van, not the newer cute face version.
Next year might grab a van for general work/non work duties. Can't afford a Euro 6 so might as well go reliable (euro 2 or 3).
VW t4 LWB would almost suit the need, and I know their engines and general VW'ness very well, but they are so vastly overpriced, and quite narrow, like the idea of a sideways bed/bike underneath.

  • like the idea of a sideways bed/bike underneath.

Thinks that only the Sevel vans that have the width

  • Need to go up to sprinter / crafter size to sleep sideways!

  • Has anyone here done diy electrics on their camper conversion?
I’m know very little about van electrics but as I’m converting my van myself I’d like to have a go at it.
I’d like to install a leisure battery to run a few lights, tap pump and charge my phone. That’s about it really. I don’t need solar. Maybe a mains hookup.
I’d like to order all I need as a kit but can’t seem to find one.
    Any advice is appreciated.

  • If I was doing a van from scratch I'd forget an old school lead acid leisure battery and run the whole lot off a decent USB power bank. If you need 12V for the water pump use the starter battery. It's not like you're going to drain it with a few seconds use. You could also consider one of those camping power pack things.

(my actual van has a ludicrously elaborate Arduino-powered dual battery 24V system, for Reasons)

  • Thanks. Camping power bank is a great idea.
It’s only a day van so I just want it to be simple

  • Yeah I did my own 12V leisure battery install - it wasn't too tricky other than trying to get wires through some of the grommets.

I paid about £15 to get access to a virtual workshop and some helpful pdfs from Quirky Campers and then bought batteries, switch panel, lights and a 12V cable kit separately all off ebay. The camper already had a tap pump and I moved it from starter battery to the leisure battery and wired in touch switch spots and a string of LEDs myself pretty easily. Really nice to have the lighting in there, and also to choose between lower brightness LED string or the brighter spotlights. The battery, charge controller and voltage switch all sit hidden away under the drivers seat.

USB power bank isn't a bad shout though - something is now draining my starter battery constantly, and it's probably something I've done wrong in the wiring or a maybe a ground fault somewhere. Wouldn't have the same problem with an independent power bank, but I think you'd want to make sure you can charge it while driving.

  • I just put a charged leisure battery in my van and have a couple of adaptors I clip on, one for the 12v lighting and a multiway cigarette lighter thing for plugging chargers into.

When home I take the battery out and charge it. The battery has so much capacity that it would runs for a few weeks with my usage. No complicated charging circuits etc

  • I skipped the leisure battery and wired everything in to an EcoFlow 700wh battery bank, with a solar panel on the roof keeping it topped up.

The EcoFlow has an inverter and 3 pin sockets, usb-c pd for my laptop, normal usb and 12v out via 5.5mm socket - I’ve then just wired lights etc in to that.

  • Bugger. Seems I've shorted my MPPT charger , Abso 50a and killed it. They say there is no internal fuse so seems it's dead.

  • Can you run a Waeco type fridge for a couple of days from one of these?

  • I have a solar panel connected so definitely, even without one though I’m sure it would last a couple of days as it has a 700wh battery. Dometic sell a similar one for fridges which is half the capacity.

  • We are off to look at a Ford Transit camper later this week, its a 2001 model with just 56,000 miles on the clock, due to it being an old church van.

What type of question do we need to ask, MOT'ed until April 24, also had a recent service.

  • Get underneath and have a really good look for rust. I have a 2010 Vito and it is an annual task for me to try to keep on top of the rust.

Forum passim, before purchasing my Sevel, went on transit forums looking for advice. It was, check for rust and then check again, they all do it.

  • Long time lurker, first time poster: a proper camper is way out of budget for our means, but a recent move to Wales has really driven home my longstanding urge to get some sort of setup sorted. Not seen much chat about microcampers on here, but a proper Amdro boot jump that'll fit our very old Berlingo has come up in Burnley, so we're likely making the long drive up there next week to pick it up. Double-ish bed, big alcohol stove, some storage - should be all we need.

Will document the setup on here next week if anyone is interested, and always keen to hear of friendly campsites in the national parks too. For now, here's a photo of the car/van in the Preseli Hills on the trip that set off this whole train of thought.

  • How big a one? I still want to sell my Ducato L3.

Rust would be my biggest worry then perishables.

  • I had to Google what a "boot jump" is, but looks fun! Post you pictures when you got it.

  • I still want to sell my Ducato L3

Just a van or conversion? I'm after a Euro6 Sevel

  • Converted, all be it a bit rough round the edges. Euro6 2017 150,000mi, price will be good. DM me an email and I'll send details.

  • Vehicle of dreams. Vetoed in my household on aesthetic grounds, I believe.

  • What do you mean - who doesn’t want a car that’s basically a rectangle with a duck bill stuck on the front?

We nearly got a Multipla so this is an improvement for us - even if the rectangle part does making driving over the Severn bridge on a windy day fucking terrifying. You win some you lose some eh.

  • If your interested in cool campervan stuff then find precisionplank on the media’s! Working all the hours to get products online currently.
