No, I have some shit, but they all remind me of something. Nowadays I buy what I want, I used to go into record shops and take punts on stuff I had never heard when I was younger (the shit sits in amongst that lot).

I've tried to slow my buying down a bit. I do like a 7" & 12" stuff though, and albums, and box sets, and limited edition imports and dub plates and white labels and coloured vinyl etc.

I hear you!

When 7" were a quid?
-
• #2031
Where did I say that?
Edit:
Apologies, I read that as "when were 7" a quid?"!!!
Yes, probably, it was the time when 12" were under 3 quid. I very rarely bought 7" back then, it was all about the 12"s!

Did no one else 'inherit' records. Last year someone gave me a box of genuine VG+ albums. Some really decent late 70's singer songwriter stuff. All pretty mainstream but nice to have. I have a bunch of dodgy late 80's 12" like erasure and nena cherry from a friend who just wanted rid. 80 7" records from my gran/mums estate.
Now I've started thinking about it I have loads of records from other people for various reasons.

Yes, that is part of the clearing out earlier this evening. I rescued my parent's records from their loft a while ago and put them in one of my storage units at home. There are loads of Beatles/Stones etc stuff that you would expect but tonight I purged the Neil sedaka, aker bilk and other miscellaneous shite. But going back to me not selling stuff..... Unfortunately I cannot sell that crap (even if someone wanted it) because it really doesn't belong to me.

2nd hand classical music - pound for pound easily the best value for money.
That and Jazz Fusion. I've been hoovering up the later with the occasional of the former lately.

Yeah, the grading is the annoying bit, I know what picky nerds vinyl people are. Will try on here first, ta.
I was worried about that when I first started selling on Discogs, however, I've been grading conservatively and had no complaints so far*
*I will of course now get some.

Don't worry, no one wants it 🙂

Apologies, I read that as "when were 7" a quid?"!!!
I'm old enough to remember them being cheaper than that, but I've got a load of crap circa 2003 that was £1. Including a Joe Strummer picture disc that fairly valuable now.

While we’re on the subject of value, what’s going on with this dude?
https://www.discogs.com/seller/not-for-sale/profile
Can be bothered to list thousands of records, but all at insane prices. Couple things he’s selling on my want list are literally priced 100 times higher than other seller. Has he just listed his entire collection at those prices in the hope some idiot buys one here and there?
-

A lot of them are Russian, so I'm saying money laundering, on the basis of not understanding how money laundering might really work here.
Or he's just looking for somewhere to catalogue his collection online and showcase his great music taste for free, without having to actually lose any of the collection.
But probably money laundering.

I don’t know anything about money laundering but isn’t it made harder by selling with an uneditable inventory and hard figures? I guess if it was a physical shop he could say he’s selling loads of expensive records when not actually doing so. Or I guess he could be getting a friend to buy his record at those prices but you still can’t pay cash on discogs right?
-

I think it's more likely they don't want to sell the records but will for a certain (ridiculously high) price. I've got one or 2 for sale on Discogs that have a comment similar to 'don't want to sell but will at this price'.
The discogs name 'Not For Sale' is a bit of a clue.
Feedback is pretty poor though and suggests they're a chancer with no idea of proper grading.

• #2042
Yeah that's what I assumed as well. But why go to the bother of listing nearly 3000 records? One or two like you've done I get, but 3k? Unless there's some option to bulk list all of your collection, but even if there is he's still got to set 3000 stupid prices.
-
• #2043
You can upload your inventory by spreadsheet. He may have some quick way to put prices into the sheet or just big numbers first then dial it in one by one later on. I would avoid buying anything from them as they 'only listen to records on request' so their grading is worthless.

• #2044
Don't worry about me buying records from them! They just pop up on my wantlist doomscroll some mornings and always confuse the fuck out of me
-
• #2045
Not sure who's the weirdo now, you doomscrolling your wantlist or some guy offering prices on huge numbers of records he doesn't want to sell. 🤪
-
• #2046
You don't go through your 'listed in the last 24 hours' wantlist every morning religiously? It's how I start the day...
-
• #2047
As a seller I'm very happy you do 🙂
-
• #2048
Standard breakfast routine for me, I actually bought one that appeared on my list at a reasonable price this very morning!!
-
• #2049
Same! It's how I buy probably 85% of my records off there. Occasionally I'll hear a song and immediately go and buy it from there if there's a copy at a good price. If not, it goes on the wantlist and I pounce on anything around or below average price when it eventually comes up in the last-24-hours list
-
• #2050
My problem is that my wantlist always gets longer!!
All the same it surprises me that you really have none that you would sell. Clearly you buy way more carefully than me.
