I'd vote for an espresso machine. For that money you should be able to grab a Gaggia Classic already PID'd and throw in an ISM basket.
Once you get the setup dialled in it really isn't too much of a faff in my experience, the grinding being by far the bigger time consumer for me since I'm hand grinding. Quick pass with a distribution tool/cocktail stick, tamper and go. Frothing milk (I mostly have cappucinos myself) isn't much of a time consumer either.
I think in very little time you'll get much better results than a B2C machine and for me the little procedure (again, not a time consuming one if you have an electric grinder, really) is part of the pleasure!

I do actually have an espresso grinder (Ascaso i-mini I think) that is sitting unused in a cupboard.
For ~£300, should I be looking at an Espresso machine with steam wand (I want it for flat whites more than straight shots) rather than a bean to cup machine for similar money?
