• After having done many DIY iPhone battery replacements for myself and acquaintances over the years, I would highly recommend paying Apple to do it instead.

    For manifold reasons, chief of which is you know you’ll be getting a genuine battery which will last more than 6 months.

  • For screen (it’s cracked slightly) + battery replacement from Apple is quoted at £289 (battery alone 89) vs ifixit prices £107. The latter of which is inflated by buying tools twice.

    Quite a large gap to justify. Looking at eBay sold XS 64gb (what I have) only sell for ~150 max so neither option is great £ wise tbh.

  • For a 5 year old phone, I'd give it a go myself but trying to get as good components as possible. I'd buy everything from ifixit.

    Do you really need to buy tools twice? They usually sell kits with parts+tools, but also parts and tools separately
