Front fork brake hole protector

Hi all,

I'm going to be adding a front brake in the not too distant future - the forks have a pre-existing hole, but I'm being a bit precious about the inevitable bite/paint chip that can occur where the brake clamps to the fork.

Can a rubber washer/seal be put in between so the fork hole stays presentable for when a brake isn't on?

You want the caliber to be fixed in place firmly enough that when you apply considerable breaking force through the brake levers / cables, this clamps the pads onto the rim as opposed to just moving the caliber…
In theory you might be able to bolt the caliber on tight enough with a rubber washer between it and the fork, but I would have thought that you would have to apply such force that it would probably destroy the washer, if not immediately then over time - and then you would end up with a lose caliber which would be dangerous as - for the reasons above - it would interfere with the braking system.
