Anyone got one of these or any thoughts on it? Seems to be popular in barista championships…..

I’d spend that amount on a grinder upgrade

You recon the difference between the 64s and 78s to make espresso would mostly be that the smaller burr would take longer or is a larger burr better suited for any other reason?
As someone without lots of counter space who only makes standard double shots of espresso (ie 14/15g) this looks really interesting and potentially a sensible way to move from my current hand grinder to an electric one... 🤔

Likely preaching to the choir but for anyone that enjoys Napolitan-style espresso, there’s a little hole in the wall place on Goodge St called Caffe Napoli. Perfect little shots at 2quid a go. Lever machine to boot. She even has cremina. Only open mon-fri, 7-3. Check it out if you’re around there.

I'm sure it's been asked and answered many times but...
Bean to cup espresso machine, is there a default suggestion?
Or should I just get a "proper" espresso machine? (Anyone selling a Gaggia Classic?)

How many a day?
-
• #23833
Not many, maybe 2-4 during the week, a couple extra on the weekends.
LadyDeth has expressed an interest, not sure she wants to dial in proper espresso machine and pushing a button seems like a good option for all involved.

Point and shoot makers are beyond my depth, sorry.
If there was always only one person making the coffee I’d recommend one of the manual lever machines. -

The hoff did an episode comparing a few b2c machines if of interest

The Mexican water decaf beans arrived the other day. I can conform they are very tasty.
Weirdly the beans are really really small.
-
• #23838
Might just be a variety-specific thing, I know anytime I get Kenyan Peaberry coffee the beans are always tiny also. Are the beans themselves Mexican or is that a name for the decaf process used? Beans from higher regions do tend to be more dense & compact IME

Sage Barista Express / their basic standalone plus a grinder is a good option if you can afford it. My other half who doesn’t care for coffee nerdery in any way is still able to make a latte she’s happy with, while I can faff about with dialling in/latte art etc.

I’d previously had Bar Italia in Soho down as my Italian espresso venue of choice, but will keep an eye out if passing by Goodge St!

Recently my 10 year+ gaggia bean to cup died and after months of back and forth settled on a sage barrista express impress.
It's about as close to separate espresso machine and grinder I could get without an accompanying divorce. Makes banging coffee and once dialed in I can knock out consistent coffee really quick.
I drink double espresso, americano and coconut milk flat whites.
Definitely worth a look. If you go direct to sage's website and do the chat to us they give out discount codes too. I got it cheaper direct than you can get from Currys/John Lewis etc.

If I was getting bean to cup it would be a Sage, they’re just really good vfm.

the sage bambino plus and their smart grinder pro is outside your budget by a fair margin but it's done exactly what you sound like you're after for me.
I dialled it in when I got it to dose approx 17g per automated grind and we use the basic double shot and steam features for every coffee we make and we're probably closing in on our 3rd service routine (~600 shots) and it's good enough I don't pine for my gaggia or wish there were any decent coffee shops down here.
gf who was allergic to learning the gaggia now makes us/guests coffee without hesitation or hassle.
I'm sure you could drop a step down from those models and get roughly the same kind of result for a bit cheaper.

The name of the coffee is going to be a HUGE hint.

I mean I buy my coffee green, so I was expecting Green Giant peas

got an incredibly specific brainworm...
i'm on the look out for a flask (approx 350-500ml, ideally closer to the 500ml end) with an integrated cup, which will neatly fit in a bottle cage (lol)
something like the thermos king flask, but that fits nicely in a cage (got a pdw otter, random no name custom paint ones off ebay of the usual spec)
the integrated cup part is an annoying worm of mine (in therapy, it's quite nice to pour it out/have something to fiddle with idk), also just a nicer feeling than chugging out of a weighty flask.
it's really hyper-specific, I'll probably just buy my own king thermos and stop nicking my partners but thought i'd ask in case anyone has revelations!
really. this is fine. it's just a bit of bashing it in there to get it to wedge

This hits most of your criteria.....apart from the integrated cup. Can drink directly out of it though.....

I just pledged for the 078s on kickstarter!
Not a lot of info out there, but it seems to be that it's not just a case of big burr little burr, but generally more premium and robust build plus a 400W motor in the 078s. On the other hand the 064s will have lots of burr options while the 078s will have none.
This is the only review of the actual espresso burrs that I can find: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CpxUV07qEu2/

I've done the same, fingers crossed it works out.
Lance had done a decent review on the 078 so it seems promising.

I've one of these, I find it always has a smell about it. Compared to any other keepcup.
Would a Multibev
Work
Be a bold choice over the tried and tested Niche zero at a very similar price point tbh
And @mmccarthy I guess it’s just an ode to their fellow coffee designers ;)
