  • I’ve received two fines from Comune di Bergamo for a highway violation in April 2022. I paid a bunch of fines from this trip last year (no, it wasn’t a Gumball Rally).

E90 if paid within five days; E114 for next 60 days; increases by E197 if not paid within 60 days. All durations are ‘from notification’.

So, what happens if I don’t pay?

  • I think they can chase you for it in the UK. Also they may remember it at passport control when you go there in the future

  • I never settled a disputed debt from when I lived in Switzerland, and I do wonder if I'll get pulled up the next time my passport is inspected at a Swiss border control. It was 24 years ago now, so I'm hoping the statute of limitations will mean I'm in the clear soon.

  • I don’t know about the EU but a mate got arrested going back into the US after not paying a speeding fine.
Another mate got nicked speeding on Pensylvania Avenue, didn’t pay the fine came back to the UK. He changed his surname, went back and they didn’t pick him up.
The visa form just asked you about Moral Turpitude and being a member of The Nazi Party before 1933. I had to help him fill it out .
