The problem I have with with bar mitts for courier work (which I'm pretty sure is BRP's use case) is that your hands are in and out so often. You don't really have the chance to build up and maintain that toasty microclimate. Before I bought the lobster gloves I used them on my commuter and they were great for that, only taking my hands out for a few seconds at a time to indicate etc.
Edit: actually I think BRP and I have had this exact conversation before and he (quite rightfully) get over the dork factor!
