  • Seem to recall it being a feature on Edge too (don't hate me, had a Surface and it was excellent for annotating PDFs)

  • we all have our deep dark secrets, this is a safe space

  • I confess thread >>>

  • It's been about 10 years since I had a Mac but Preview used to let you open and annotate pdfs. It's about the only thing I miss. I assume it still exists?

  • I use DocHub, which is an app through Google. It's really really simple, and even better, it's free.

  • I've used DoChub too, I think they charge if you want to do quite a few, but the free version covers loads more than I need.

  • Is there a free or one time payment app for IOS or Mac that I can use instead

Foxit base model is £139 for the one-time purchase option for Mac
    https://www.foxit.com/pdf-editor/

or $10.99 a year to subscribe on iOS

  • Rewording-

If an overseas investor pays their investment in my company into my own named business account (not the business’ account), would this create a tax liability for me? Or would HMRC accept my evidence trail of the money being destined for the company, and never actually belonging to me?

  • GXP bottom brackets - just grab whatever cheap cartridge thing is on offer, or worth getting something from eg Uberbike with replaceable bearings?

  • This is a simple Whole Life Cost analysis, isn’t it? What’s the cost of:

    Cheap GXP
    Expensive GXP
    Replacement bearings

    And how long they last:

    Cheap GXP
    Initial expensive GXP
    Replacement bearings

  • I've got a Blackburn Outpost saddle 'sausage' bag, its great, but the dry bag is no longer waterproof, just seeps through. They don't seem to sell replacements, anyone got a recommendation for a replacement tapered dry bag?

I've looked at Restrap, wildcat etc but they're all too short for my tent. (Blackburn one is 68cm long when flat).

Guessing I can just put a non tapered one in, but don't want it being really loose and flappy.

  • In my experience, the standard GXPs don't last too long before they get all crunchy and unpleasant. Next time mine needs replacing I'll get one with replaceable bearings.

  • You'll probably get an anti money laundering (AML) flag depending on the sum.

Ask them to get a banker's cheque with the recipient as your business. AFAIK, the AML and KYC should have been completed by the issuing bank before the cheque is issued.

Banker's cheques are quite old school though, so a junior teller won't know.

  • Struggling with search terms for this on Google.

In W10 there is a parent(?) folder with files and subfolders some of which have more subfolders. I regularly need to delete all the files inside but keep all the folders.

Is there an easy way to do this?

    Cheers

  • Easiest way is to go into the folder, search by * sort it so that folders are at the bottom or top and just highlight everything else and delete.

If you want to automate it then

    del c:\myfolder\*.*? /s

    should do it.

  • From the command-line, yes.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT TOP LEVEL DIRECTORY.

    Here's a bunch of files:-

    C:\Users\alex\test>dir /b /s
    C:\Users\alex\test\a
    C:\Users\alex\test\b
    C:\Users\alex\test\foo.txt
    C:\Users\alex\test\a\b
    C:\Users\alex\test\a\foo.txt
    C:\Users\alex\test\a\b\more.txt
    C:\Users\alex\test\b\foo.txt

Use del /s /q *.txt to delete the text files:-

    C:\Users\alex\test>del /s /q *.txt
    Deleted file - C:\Users\alex\test\foo.txt
    Deleted file - C:\Users\alex\test\a\foo.txt
    Deleted file - C:\Users\alex\test\a\b\more.txt
    Deleted file - C:\Users\alex\test\b\foo.txt

    Check what's left:-

    C:\Users\alex\test>dir /b /s
    C:\Users\alex\test\a
    C:\Users\alex\test\b
    C:\Users\alex\test\a\b

    Directory structure intact.

Works the same if you do del /s /q * (and leaves the directories intact).

If, using that same structure as above, I just wanted to delete all files called more.txt wherever they were I could do:-

    C:\Users\alex\test>del /q /s more.txt
    Deleted file - C:\Users\alex\test\a\b\more.txt

  • Cheers! I'll give that a go.

  • Just remember to ctrl + Z if you delete system32 👍

  • Narrow wide jockey wheels, any actual benefits?

  • Not sure if this should be posted in the snowboard thread, but thought casting it wider would be a good idea.

My snowboard boots are over 10yr old now. However, unfortunately they have not actually had that much use and in most places are still in good condition. The synthetic leather surface has started to separate and loose adhesion at wear points. I'd like to get another season out of them.

My initial thought was to clean, mask, and plastidip those areas. But now I'm wondering if I could buy some tough fabric and glue it on top of those high wear points.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Also any suggestions on glue? It would need to be something that would remain flexible at low temps.

    Cheers

  • I only have to do this occasionally so paying £10 per month to adobe feels extortionate. Is there a free or one time payment app for IOS or Mac that I can use instead.

Late to the party, but Preview that ships with Mac OS can do this.

Load the form in Preview, then tools -> annotate. It's a bit lumpy but you can fill out the form and sign it in Preview.

  • shoe goo? skaters always used to swear by it for fixing shoes and it says it is flexible at low temps once dry

Does anyone know where I can get inline travel agents, like the Jtek ones but for brake cable pull? TIA.

  • My SRAM Force rim brake calipers are shot. Do I replace with Red aerolink or another set of Force? I've read a fair amount of negative stories online about Red being difficult to set up.

Braking power is more important to than weight, obviously.

Won't mix Campag or Shimano, but could go TRP etc if better

  • Aerolink, as long as you don't have a super short head tube. They're hard to set up on small frames, but if you have some room for a nice curve of cable then they're brilliant.

center them using a 14mm spanner on the large nut where the brake meets the frame

although this is cheap https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/BCSRFOXYZ/sram-force-brake-caliper#BCSRFOXYZ-FR but i've always found that generation of force dreadful
