Are the baseplates not a thing any more?

I had to look up the build instructions online and something I hadn't remembered is how much of a 'spot the difference' the instructions were then, compared to now where everything is detailed step by step!

Baseplates exist but only flat ones that I’m aware of. It’s a shame.

Old instructions were definitely harder though piece count vs today made them manageable.

MOC=My Own Creation (as opposed to built from a kit)
Tata=current owners of the Land-Rover brand and therefore responsible for the current Defender

The current defender looks shit. I didn't need a lot of thinking time though when they released the classic defender.
A series III would've been ideal, but this was too close to miss.

Small Lego for £8 in Lidl. Telehandler and a dump truck.

I might be 37 but this makes me feel like a kid every time I go down from my office.

Got more cars but ran out of inverse 2x2 flat tiles to stick to the wall.

6273 - Rock island refuge was right at the top of my unachievable dream list as a kid.

At £1k sealed and £200 used, I think it might stay that way.

I have that set! No box and it's fucked from years of play but can currently be found dissembled in a parts draw being used by my son.

My brother had 6277 Port Royal

And now I have them both, bwah ha ha.

I was also lucky enough to be, presumably, the only child into lego reading Farmers Weekly (grew up on a farm - not a complete dweeb), so I entered a competition they had to colour in a castle.

Similarly, in a dinosaur magazine recently there was some cross promotion with Jurassic Park. Got my son to write something (and it was actually a really good answer) and he came home from climbing to find these:
