But....I only just got them!
(Better put the OG spikes back on)

That’s nice.
I also like the look of the Thunder Shot.

DB01 is the only one that’s in the centre of the fun / fast / race capable / affordable / available / looks good / interesting build / durable Venn diagram

Interesting you say that; I can only find assembled ones on eBay.
-
• #2256
You have to get them shipped over from Japan

I see. Thanks for the tips.

Finally switched to banana connectors on the Thunder Shot / Fire Dragon. (Visible in cockpit) Still using a 16T brushed with 2S lipo. Many drift.

I had a Thundershot for years. It was a great RC car in many respects, but fuck me, it was so fragile!
It actually made me get rid of it, and when i got something tougher i realised what a pain it had been -

Fortunately no racing here.
I just like staring at that era.
Hasn't been bettered imo.

Love it. Still on my list of possible next builds.

The Lunchbox is finished. Happy with how it looks, but I can tell I need to upgrade the front end…

I'll hopefully get the Lunchbox running, this afternoon.
Any tips for setting up the ESC? And will there be some charge in the NiMH battery that I bought?

Back considering a new ,rapid build for car park shenanigans.
Front runner is TT02 purely because hop ups are plentiful.
Idea is a 3s LiPo, brushless with either a Volvo 850 estate shell or perhaps a Zakspeed Capri.Anything else to look at before pulling the trigger? (in before XV-01, unless it is markedly better OOB than an upgraded TT02)
Secondly, where do you get your stuff from?
Specifically motors and ESCs, (my DT03 is running stock tamiya TBLE-02 and 540 brushed can)
(Alternatively worded, what motor and ESC should I get?)
(I am happy sourcing batteries, servos, Tran/Rec) -

I appear to be up and running. It was a simple case of switching on the receiver and then switching on the controller... I'd read some long text about needing to set up the ESC, but it goes backwards and forwards no problem. :)
@DethBeard I am just getting back into all of this, but I bought the Lunchbox from Wonderland Models (wonderlandmodels.com) and in a search for suspension upgrades, modelsport.co.uk seems to be a good shop.

Cheers, I used Fusion Hobbies for my last build but they kept nousing up my order and stuff went OOS after I bought it.
Will check out modelsport (I recall the name now but couldn't remember it)

Specifically motors and ESCs, (my DT03 is running stock tamiya TBLE-02 and 540 brushed can)
I bought a servo from Banggood a while back that was really good but also very good value.
There's a youtuber Kevin Talbot who's videos are a guilty pleasure of mine - he often posts links to various cheap motor / esc / servos that he uses in his videos.

Looks great, liking the blacked-out front grill!
I went for Fasttrax 85mm shocks all round with a slightly softer oil in the front - 30wt and 35wt, plus foam tyre inserts, and it handles much better. Fitting the shocks is a bit fiddly and requires reusing the rear ball joints, plus using the spare mountings left over in the kit (final page of the instructions shows how to fit Tamiya's upgraded shocks and you can go from there).
Can second re: modelsport, they've been really good the couple of times I've used them

I also found a tip about fitting an elastic band to where the tyre bead seats on the wheel to stop them coming off (or supergluing the beads) - which has worked so far. The nephew ragged it around on Sunday with no issues

Thanks! And thanks for the tips.
Glad your nephew enjoyed it - I don’t have a small person nearby to bring down the rabbit hole with me.

Yes to Model Sport etc I don't really have a preferred retailer.
Also if you want to run 3s brushlesss be sure to switch to Dean's or other low resistance connectors.
Tamiya connectors will melt.

good to know.
Been speccing the build on paper and have already dialed it back to 2s
-
• #2273
Yeah it's a pita resoldering unless u can get the control gear already Dean's wired. Would even recommend with 2S

Anyone ordered from Tamico recently?
I assume you get a tasty VAT bill with the appropriate delivery firm charge added once it lands in the UK? -
• #2275
No. I remember having something in the basket and then it wouldn't let me order as UK delivery...
I had a Terra Scorcher and my twin brother had a Thundershot.. I remember put loads of screws through the tyres from the inside out to make snow spikes!!!
