  • It's worth noting that the inventor is gradually reducing his holdings, that may have more to do with his age and number of ex wives than anything else though.

  • There's already a Litepro Brompton clone!

  • Anyone need a brand new rear mudguard?

    £14 posted.

  • What’s required to convert a 2 speed Brompton to a 3 speed (adding a 17T) sprocket and a new shifter rather than going hub gear? Having tried @Arvy.’s 4 speed I’m contemplating an upgrade.

  • 11 speed cassette and a thinner lockring plus the shifter conversion kit.

  • Has anyone managed to put a cassette on a Brompton? I was thinking of buying a Kinetics kit but don't want a weighty internal hub.

James Houston, who completed the Transcontinental on a Brompton last year, has converted his to a 12 speed. Not sure exactly how he has done this.

  • Silver BUT I'm sure I've got a black one somewhere.

L or R? I'll say L but rather not assume.

  • James's bike just has a double chainset plus a front mech on an Ali Express bracket. The rear is stock BWR 6 speed.

  • Excellent post, thanks, does @Mikey5000 have the range he needs. Does this give as wide a range as the 4 speeds they now offer on their newer bikes.

I shouldn't admit it, but the freewheel noise is hilarious

*Ideal combo with our X3 Unibody cog set to achieve 11/14/17T setup (close to P Line 4 speed gear range) *

  • Thanks! I'll have a look.

  • Anyone in need of a like new standard Brompton Seat? £20

  • Is that a carbon Brompton fork?

  • Holy cow that is fire ! Black blue tan walls and discs what a combo. j'adore

  • Reader's.

After 18 months of commuting, travelling and wearing out every single component on it, i upgraded the stock H bars to some mid-rise carbon JK bars.

Safe to say, for a tall rider like me, these bars do make a difference. Although they're slighly lower, they are much wider and with a more "traditional riser" backsweep. Also the carbon does help, at least on the very rough pavement.

Even with an H front clamp, i didn't need to lenghten the cables, although they are a little bit more stretched now. The bike still folds perfectly, but the lower bar end touches from time to time when i roll it around.

I've sent an email to JK asking the recommended tightening torque for the stem clamp and they said between 8 and 9 Nm it's fine. I managed without any slipping at 5 Nm and some carbon grip paste.

All in all, much recommended upgrade, especially if you're planning to make the bike feel less like a minivelo and more like a "normal" bike. It's also possible to widen a little bit the space between the grips and the brake levers, handy if you have bigger hands (or you just want to buy some normal sized grips and save some $$).

P.s. The rusty chain is just the victim of a rainy ride from a few days ago, i'll clean it soon enough.

  • New Brompton electric, battery won't charge, flashing red light on charging brick.
    Any ideas, faulty battery maybe?
Been in touch with retailer; really would like to keep it!

  • I've had mine for a while but never that problem. Is this straight out of the box? Have you had the battery connected to the bike.

I can say that the backup and warranty have been great. I bought from Brompton Central Covent Garden and they've sorted me out a couple of times. Mine's had a battery, controller and motor replaced.

  • Yes new, straight out of the box.
They're replacing the charger, fingers crossed!

  • That's bad luck. Do you have no charge in the battery at all?

They did replace my charger at one point too. I thought they were getting on top of the electrical gremlins.

  • Just two bars on battery, not been out on it yet.

  • Some of my old battery problems were fixed by connecting and disconnecting the battery, or connecting/riding the bike then disconnecting. It only happened a few times and in the end everything got replaced.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait to get on it, just take it easy on the corners in the wet!

  • Thanks, it's not my 1st Ebike including a Brompton Swytch conversion; keen to see how the Brommie Electric measures up.

  • Would be interested to know what you think. I've only tried the Brompton Electric so have nothing to compare to.
