I have an ancient 1P Macpac tent laying around. I used it when I went cycle touring back in 2005 when I arrived in the UK. I kept it but never used it again and have since bought 2P tents for the both of us. I think it used to be considered lightweight but that was 20 years ago.

I've got a Terra Nova wild country Coshee 2 I'm thinking of moving on, as for a newer tent recently.
It's about 2kgs just over, lovely and roomy. One of these :

If it's circa 2kg and packs down small, I might be interested (price pending, obvs).

Looks ace but I suspect you'd want more for it than I'm really wanting to pay for what's really a 'dipping a toe into this bikepacking malarkey' exercise.

When do you need it by?
Not sure of weight but that could be measured. Not sure about pack size either - I had it on top of a rack.

No big rush, tbh. Unlikely I'll use it before late May at the earliest.

Have you considered a tarp? My tarp weighs 250g and is minuscule.
-
• #2534
I'm too old/nesh for a tarp. I need sewn-in groundsheet and zips at my time of life.

Ferrino lil italian brand, recycled materials, super nice and airy, easy to put up, v reasonably priced. https://www.snowleader.co.uk/nemesi-2-pro-olive-FERR00452.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=CjwKCAiA0cyfBhBREiwAAtStHKbnwleur4TuAOKWZHd8eM78C3l8igwlDxfgwbVoKmLwPa4IQWRpCBoCBBoQAvD_BwE

'Ultra lightweight'.... 2.2KGs. Does not compute.
Considering that this site stocks it, one would be far, far better off spending an extra 50 quid and getting the Sierra Designs Clip.. Significantly lighter and made by a very reputable manufacturer.

I've never had one, but those front doors look like a nightmare in the rain.
-
• #2538
Maybe not the lightest of all but very nice to have two entrances if there are two in the tent, all the same :-).
-

I can confirm that they are. I think a lot of tent designs from US aren’t really optimised for uk perma-mizzle.

Does anyone have experience with the station 13 pyramid tent ?
And, are there any good alternatives to a walking pole, that folds? Someone here mentioned a custom person on eBay that makes them but I couldn't find that.

Poles here : https://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/product/custom-length-carbon-poles/
I got one for my Lanshan 1 and quality is excellent. Just wish I'd gone for more sections as its now just slightly too big for my new frame bag.

miniscule when under it trying to shelter or when packed?
Do you have a pic of it in use?
Am somewhat wary of ultralight tarps - possible damage from tree branches etc etc. -

Woah, nearly fifty quid for a tent pole? The entire tent I'm considering buying is only a tenner more.
-

ok.
Maybe I'm going mad, but for a carbon pole made to order and at least partly produced in the UK it doesn't seem too bad to me.
If you want cheap just buy the cheapest trekking pole you can find and pitch the tent how god intended.

It was just a bit of a shock when I first saw it, tbh. I've no idea whether it's good value or not, but it's way beyond my pocket (for what it is).
-
• #2547
Think that probably says more about the tent you're buying than the pole tbh.

Tiny when in its stuff sack. Its a palace for one (as seen in the photo), and this is pitched relatively low as well. I am looking at alternatives though, purely because the foot print is so large. Level ground is at a premium up in the Sierra and pitching this isn't always that straight forward. There'd usually be even more headroom than there was with this setup, but I was using my car camping pad instead of my backpacking pad and this Exped is over twice the height of my Xlite.

nice setup!
my self-made 3m x 3m, 20d Silnylon tarp, weighs 300g and is my favourite thing for camping.
sleeps 1 to 5 people! unreal how small it packs down. -

Grazie. Yeah, fuck. Ha. 3m x 3m is HUGE!
The only thing that would make this GG Twinn better is if it were SilPoly. It does definitely sag when there's some moisture in the air, which SilPoly would not do.
No big deal, but this was in the high desert which is usually very dry. I didn't actually sleep under it because there was no rain forecast so I cowboy'd, but yeah, it was sagging good and proper and due to excessive desert wind, it was flapping in the breeze big time.
Hehe. I mean, it really doesn't have to be a 'wonder' as such, but something that isn't going to add too many kgs to my rack and pannier set-up and isn't too bulky would be nice.
