fair enough. I get it from a small business perspective!

That's a good idea. I'll hit a few shops this weekend and see if anyone will take it on. Thanks.

@onegear05
Was this price quoted for you taking your bike there, and taking it with a freshly cut steerer? If so, fork in hand, cleaned (!) & clearly marked at desired cut should yield cheaper results.#storytime neverforget the time I asked a shop to whack on a bearing race on a fork (with the 2 items in hand, ready to be installed), asked me to come back in 30mins and wanted to charge me £28, because thats what they bill for "headset replacement" eg: you go there with a bike they take out your old headset, they replace it with a new one, and adjust it. RIP

Anyone got a Park Tool BBT-30.4 Bottom Bracket Bearing Tool or similar?
Thinking I should probably do the right thing and use the correct tool instead of smashing the bearing out with a wrench handle.

I do. In Beckenham, south east London if that's any good. I need to find it as we moved house a couple of months ago, but it'll be in the shed somewhere.

Anyone knows manclub who's now deleted his profile and ignoring my messages on WhatsApp.
I know where he works though.

I’m shook that I don’t have one, but here we are. I need a bearing puller. Ideally like the Wheels Manufacturing one. Like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wheels-Manufacturing-Sealed-Bearing-Extractor/dp/B003UW5F3W
Ideally soonish. Can pick up.

I've got a blind bearing puller kit, only one of those cheap ones but it works fine. Welcome to borrow, I'm in SE9

That might just be the ticket. Let me check bearing OD tomorrow. It’s for motorbike bearings so bigger the better.
Really should get one of those….

Nice kit, where from? Might get one for the home workshop!
-
• #1687
It does 8-32mm, apparently. But yeah, let me know

Ebay. Wasn't a lot of money for how much metal you get, but it's not the best quality metal either. For smashing out bearings, I'm not too fussed about that

Also have one of these somewhere, if that's of any use as well

Does anyone in SE London have a chainsaw?
-
• #1691
Tree in the way,
or,
have you taken on a 'disposal' contract from a local gang boss? -
• #1692
Tree! I have a willow that's made of four big trunks, which blocks a lot of light in the garden - @pastry_bot helped me cut two down with a handsaw, but I need a chainsaw to make the stumps clean and level.

Would anyone have a pedal spanner I could borrow for an evening in Vauxhall / Central / Muswell Hill areas or somewhere between those?
-
• #1694
One in Greenwich. Shout if that's any use.

.

• #1696
Yep I'm in Crouch End and have at least one! Away for work until Fri but once back you're welcome to borrow.

• #1697
Thank you - will dm

Does anyone around south east have a hydraulic bolt cutter I could borrow?
-
• #1699
Angle grinder or bolt cropper won’t suit?
-
• #1700
Need to free a bike with a U lock, and would rather not draw loads of attention as it's outside a block of flats. Not sure a bolt cropper would handle it!
well it's a flat rate no matter how much is being cut. my point was is it worth it for me to take off 15mm for 25quid? hence asking here for cheaper recos because I was wondering if that was the going price.
