Exactly, the next big thing in downhill racing in the late nineties. Shimano sold a limited edition set to the public, but this one from ebay is the prototype version used on pro bikes, as stated in the ad very rare, I’ve never seen a set for sale before. I’ve owned the ‘regular’ set, definitely not the most efficient shifting system, but ball-achingly cool.

I bought one of those (Chris king turquoise, for my yeti mtb) when feeling flush one month... import tax, shipping etc, it was nearer £100... I can never ever sell it... I no longer have a bike it matches

I wonder what those might have been.

They were specifically for downhill bikes with swingarms and awkward cable runs.
The cables could go around corners with no effect on shifting, unlike the conventional wire cables of the time.
