F3 might cost less. Older, carb’d. Mine is 1996 with 21k on the clock.
In your position practically anything will cost the earth for the first year.

Have you looked at classic insurance? You don’t build up NCB but I had my F4i (2001) insured for under £200, as a fairly new rider.

...let me guess, garaged at home?
I have a secured car park but as it's not at home (down the road) it's cheaper to insure parked on street (!!!), but I think perhaps classic insurance needs a private garage. Weirdly this impacts third party only as well.
I'll make a few enquiries

Anyone based in east London that knows their way around old bikes? Would be great to pick someones brain on the Honda & it's carbs, oil leaks, etc
-
• #22959
Didn't know you had a bike Josh do you ride much?
-
• #22960
Do it, I can't see prices coming down.
I really hope it wins. I don't really have a lot of love for the blade and the YZF is way more iconic.

Lovely bike. I'm not saying change the exhaust but you could get very close to the sound of RC181 with the right one though and that would be amazing.

yean man! Had it around 3 years.
Rode it a fair bit last summer. Been in dry storage this winter and im sorting out the tappets / can chain atm...
Carbs still need to be balanced a little better aswel. Its runs better than it ever has but still needs some fettling!

Passed my Mod 2. Anyone happening to sell a ULEZ-exempt 650ish motorcycle, sports/sports tourer style? Probably >10y old to make it financially viable. I've been looking at old ER-6Fs, SV650s, XJ6 Diversions... that kind of thing.
-
• #22967
Thanks, but that's unlikely to be ULEZ-exempt... also maybe a tad too old for me, I'd probably prefer to stick to the more common types so I can repair things more easily (and cheaply) should they break.

Was all geared up for my first proper ride on the CB this morning. Plan was out to Ongar via Epping.
Started pulling away from the front of my house and 'snap, snap, snap' as the D-lock In my front wheel snapped through 4 spokes. What a twat.
I've found someone to repair this, but they're fully booked for 2 weeks. Does anyone know a mechanic that'll lace wheels in East London?

Very easy to get through the test at the place in Bow. Can’t get more common than a Honda.
CBR600F3 doesn’t need anything repairing. Bulletproof understressed race engine from the 90’s. Japanese Honda quality that will take all you throw at it.
Beware early FI models are more unreliable than older carbs. Electronic gremlins can be common on early 00’s bikes.
Good luck on the bike search. Make sure someone comes with you to check things you might otherwise miss.

Reminder cables!
I only ever had a disc lock rotate at crawling pace and stop the front wheel before (on the XJ600N). Damage-free, almost embarrassing.
Swore to use a reminder cable every time after that.
-
• #22971
Oh, that's what those cables are for!
-
• #22972
Yea I thought they looked really shit, until I was desperate for a dozen of them to ease my anxiety.
-
• #22973
Reminder cable or alarmed disc lock. I use the latter and it chirps just loud enough to have the entire car park look round as I jump off the bike to quickly remove it after another forgetful moment.

Well done, keep us updated on what you get.

That’s my local loop when I fancy a quick blast. Epping road, abridge, ongar then back via high Weald or straight over the four wantz roundabout to pick up another 30-50 mile loop if time allows.
CBR600 was high on the list, but weirdly, almost uninsurable for me - was looking at f4s and they were £2k (third party only was even higher!).
