  • @Skülly reports this:

Two lovely people driving helped me. One chucked my bike in his van and drove me home. He’d lost a nephew who died after a nasty bike crash in Lewisham (lamppost) literally days ago :( That was quite a salutary moment when he told me.

I went searching and found this news article from mid-January:

A man is fighting for his life after 'cycling into a lamppost' in South East London this evening (January 14). Emergency services rushed to the scene in Lewisham Road, Lewisham at around 7pm this evening.

Another article states that the injuries 'are not life-threatening or life-changing', but that must have been written before it was clear what was happening:

Police were called to Lewisham Road on Saturday (January 14) to reports of a cyclist in collision with a lamppost.

Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service.

The cyclist, a 19-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

The latest update from the Metropolitan Police states that the cyclist injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

Obviously, that he has died is hearsay at this stage without a confirmed report, so I haven't put 'fatality' in the thread title yet. If anyone sees something, please post it.

This is the location shown in the first article, although it's not clear that this is where the crash occurred:

  • Almost certainly the same 19yr old I heard about yesterday who has since died, yes. Terrible. I had a look on line whilst in A&E yesterday.

I notice the reporting of his chances at that time is contradictory.

I asked his uncle if I may attend his funeral, I was in floods of tears whilst in his van. I’ll be in touch with him today.

I thanked him so much for taking me home. He said he’d expect anybody to do the same for him. What a diamond.

  • Thanks. Please do post if you hear more. I won't put 'fatality' in the thread title just yet, although it seems fairly certain that it must be him. What a tragedy. I hope the funeral enables the family to come together in their mourning.

Hi Oliver. Yes I think it’s the same lad. I’ll be attending the funeral on Friday, it’s at Hither Green Cem, Verdant Lane SE61TP this Friday. Seems a bit strange as I don’t know his name. His Uncle gave me selfless help last week, so in some way it seems appropriate.

  • you're a good man for that @Skülly. i'm sure he will appreciate your presence.

  • Thanks, Ben. Still nothing that I can find in news reports anywhere, but I'm sure you're right. @Velocio, please see above. Black logo time, sadly.

  • Very sad to read this, @Skülly
please pass on our thoughts and prayers to his family tomorrow :(((

  • Thanks Al, I will.

  • Really sorry to read this. Please pass on thoughts and prayers to his family @Skülly. I ride through that area regularly.

  • This is so sad reading this. @Skülly please do pass on thoughts to his family. So dreadful. Really good you're going to the funeral. Im sure it will mean a lot to his uncle that you're showing your support like that.

  • I ride that stretch of road twice daily and there's flowers attached the the lamppost. There's a solid number potholes on that stretch descending into Lewisham and the bus lane is most unrideable. RIP rider
