Lovely. I was keen on that frame as well.

Not many bikes with ee brakes and XTR derailleur!

EE and XTR, I never thought of it that way haha! I had the parts hanging around and couldn't believe when the bike popped up on ebay. I asked if he'd sell F&F and he said yes so I bought it immediately. I did wait a few months for Waltly to make the stem though.
It is one of the nicest steel frames I have ever seen, beautiful details. I'm glad there are more artisan makers today but it is a shame this team of makers is no more. They really were something special in my opinion.

Super nice build

Very nice.
With that gearing presumably you have no trouble getting up hills, but perhaps trickier coming back down with those brakes/rims?!

I think some of the same builders are in the No22 group. A lot of people in the northeast seem to move around a lot.
Serotta was a great builder, but running a business is a different skill set. So many talented craftspeople lurch in and out of bankruptcy.

Funny you should mention that, as I feel the same way. I fitted a set of DT RR440 asymmetric that I built 5 years ago, and the 7800 brakes (due to colour clash), braking is excellent as one would expect. I always liked the 7800 wheels but with 16 and 20 spokes I thought they lacked stiffness for my weight and they look similar.
I changed back to the 7800 mech, fitted narrow-wide pulleys 10T and 12T and an 11 speed chain to take out the slack. The 10T and 12T combination allows the cage to wind up all the way without fouling on small-small and enables the use of a really long chain. An 11-32 cassette can shift with small or large chainwheels without binding. There's only 14T between the old style chainrings. I had to modify the plate for the spring which is around the mounting screw to tighten the tension so the B screw is in normal range. I re drilled the hole 90 degrees further for more tension. But it shifts flawlessly now.
Overall I prefer the new setup, it is more competent all round and has a nice gear range for 53/39.

Yes davidual, some of them are in No22. I agree completely with you, art and business often do not mix.

So the EE's are no more?
Do you have a picture of how it looks now? -
• #687
Not a great background but this is how it is today. RR411 not 440! Bit less bling, bit more traditional. It's nice to ride though.

No, not NOS. They're the Cermic version and rarely used in too bad weather. ;-)

Small update to the ‘853’ Classique -
Managed to nab this titanium quill - was searching for ages as I wasnt keen on the OS stem/bars before. Some new Nitto M106s which I failed to get on without scratching the logo 💩
Would like a silver Thomson and maybe a gold chain

Hi long time lurker here, I bought this F&F that was once sold on here, built up with 7800 mullet geared with 9sp XTR M972 and 11-36 Sram XG1099, Ti stem headset seatpost and clamp. I had a CSI many moons ago and regretted selling it.
