  • 10 days? Parts? You've lost me

  • I think the comment is about the gap between MOT failure and retest.

What bit of the MOT history don’t you like?

  • A short reel from @bobby_shark_attack on instagram of my 335i E30 Touring :)

  • MOT history definitely suggests someone who waits until something breaks before replacing it, rather than going for the preventative maintenance approach. I'd want to look at the service history, I think the TDI is cambelt (worth checking though) so I'd want to see evidence of the service. Same with haldex if it's 4x4 and DSG if it's got one.

  • PDR guy did a good job I think

  • Looks good from here 👍

  • Good result that. Expensive? No idea what good PDR people charge.

  • £220 all in

  • Much love for the NSX and lovely clips. But if I hear aluminum one more time...

  • Missed out on it

  • Amazing, cheers but it got sold before I could view.

Off to view a Passat Alltrack tomorrow

  • What age you looking at? I'm thinking for one of these to replace my Outback eventually.

  • Found a nice one, 14 plate, 80k , £9500

  • Had some electrical gremlins fixed on our Skoda Roomster & now the radio has gone into safe mode, we don't have the code (shouldn't be needed apparently but here we are) - anyone know how to get hold of it without going through the dealer, is there an online code generator somewhere? Ta!

  • Who fixed the gremlins? Their issue to resolve no?

  • Was in the garage for something else & we asked them to look at the aux 12v socket that wasn't working - wasn't something simple & turned out to be a complete ball ache apparently, they only charged us for the replacement part though & not for the extra labour so there's a bit of good will there.

Was hoping it would be easy & hopefully free to get the code but every site I've looked at offering them look scammy af

  • Ah yes it in that case!

Have you tried owners forum, got to be someone with same issue and solution?

  • Had a quick look on briskoda - might just take a pop on the first link on there

  • I had to get a code for an Audi once. Paid something like £5 or £10 to what looked like a well dodgy site but the code came immediately and worked fine

  • That's a bit more reassuring, I'll just pick the cheapest one & hope for the best

  • I'm moving to a new job in summer and will have to give back my current company car. The new employer has an EV scheme but I have to pass my probation (3 months) before I can join it. Factor in delivery times etc and I probably have a 6 month gap to fill. Looking at the cost of lease deals etc I quite like the idea of buying something old and relatively cheap (£2000-£5000), running it for as long as needed and then moving it on for hopefully minimal loss.

We have a Seat Leon estate which will continue to be fine for hauling daughter and bikes, so I feel like I've got a bit of leeway to get something a bit silly and with the timeframe I'm looking to have it don't need to be too worried about running costs/mpg/long term reliability. My car history before I started getting company cars was Japanese and relatively fun (Mazda 323 Fastback, Toyota MR2 Mk2, Civic Type R FN2). Realistically most of the driving I do in this will probably be motorway cruising out to client locations. My ideas so far are:

Nissan 350z - won't be in great nick at this price range but I've always wanted one and engine wise it seems like there's not a huge amount to go wrong

Mazda RX8 - Dirt cheap now due to rotary engine lifespans, but I've always liked the styling and this seems the ideal timespan to have one before petrol and servicing costs bite

Alfa 156 - The fun engines are out of my price range but oh so pretty and would be good for bike or child moving if the Seat's being used

BMW 330/335i - All high mileage and probably thrashed at this price range but would make a nice motorway barge if they don't explode

Porsche Boxter - Small, silly and impractical. But I've always wanted one

    BMW Z4 - As above

Subaru Outback - Seems to be the forum car of choice, 3L model can be had for 2.5k, combines fun and practicality, handy if I get caught in a blizzard.

As you can see these are kind of split down the middle between the fun/practical crossover and just plain silly, so I probably need to make my mind up between those two avenues before I go any further. Any thoughts on this list or options I might have missed would be much appreciated...

  • My outback averages 13L/100km, so unless you can stomach that look away.

If I were you, I'd just buy a mondeo for the motorway. Then when you pass probation sell it and buy the fun car.

  • Toyota MR2 Mk3- mid-engine, RWD, competitively priced. Buy now before the sun comes out and pushed up all convertible prices
