That tyre/mudguard combo looks very purposefull!
Silver stem would be a nice touch. Or a black seatpost if you're so inclined..
Friction shifting? -

Yea I think you're right, its kind of just whatever I could salvage from the kona atm.
Long term I think probs silver stem + chainring and no guards once the dawes galaxy comes to life. And Hylexes. Oh and a @Tijmen framebag
It's fine for now, can't really justify aesthetic costs atm when functionally it's p spot on for me. Such a better bike than the Sutra imo

shifting is a 10sp microshift with an 11sp xt mech, 10sp deore cassette... So that I could run a 46t with the bar end shifter & not have to spend like 100 quid on a cassette when I built it
Honestly just feels so good to be able to ride regularly again without too many niggly injuries

What size tyres?
And which bar end shifter?Pretty much what I am going for with my AWOL project
-

They're 29x2.2''... Reckon it'd clear some 2.35'' Mezcals though.
Bar end shifter came off the kona, it's just a microshift one. The shifting is great tbh, way more positive than any brifters I've used. Just prone to catching on things a bit.

Nice to know that combo works, if I ever move off 9-speed.

Very cool!!

I have an 11sp shimano MTB Microshift bar-end going spare (also think I have the left 2/3x one also). Can throw in a Deore XT RD-M8000 if interested.
Was really surprised they work so well, but as our bikes are stored in the hallway, it was always getting caught on something passing by.

That'll be a dawes galaxy then
I'm re building my one after I crashed/bent my Mercian on my commute. Dawes Galaxy forever...

Would be keen if Mads doesn't want them :)
They do shift great. Just yes, the object-catchy / leg-stabby / planning a gear in advance on sketchy surfaces things are obvious drawbacks
On the plus side when I binned it the other day, the shifter was kinda like a car bumper, so nothing else really got damaged

very boring but new to me - turns out all the rigid v-brake noodles just come apart, and so if for example you needed a 135 degree adjustable noodle to fit trp cx8.4s to a dawes galaxy but can't find any anywhere, you can just buy normal 135s, adjustable 90s and swap the bits over

Or get the Dia-Compe "flexie"
Send me a message for the bar-ends, we should be able to work something out!

True - they look a bit horrible though. Plus they're kind of springy? They crossed my mind but I wondered how useful they'd be for this exact set up, where a fixed angle seems to be good enough.
Sweet will do :)

That has turned out very elegant. Kudos!
It'd be nice to find a way to utilize the redundant cable stop for mounting a light or something similar. -

Good idea - there's some dynamo lights going on so that seems like a sensible place to put one

Also built up a rear wheel to match the front I got from our very own thrasher a while back... So I can run choobluss.
