What's a decent/affordable (if not contradictory) wall scanner? I have a cheapo Amazon one which is erratic at best and could do with something a bit more accurate for a room redec I'm doing over the next few weeks

A good to know there's other small kitchen owners out there!
That tall one beside the fridge is pretty much the only food storage there is but it's a great idea:)
Trying to get everything into a tiny kitchen is a challenge! -

Right?
I thought it was for anything that rises.

Can anyone recommend a bathroom tile for me. Looking for something light coloured that comes in large format (eg 600x600) for the floor and rectangular for the 4 walls (eg 300x600). All the samples we have had so far are v dark (greys/ whites) and texture is white rough. Any ideas/ in situ photos welcome! Thank you

Recessed coir matting at the front door - yea or no?
-
• #5734
I’ve always thought yeah, but never got round to being ‘finished’ enough to have it done.

@Tenderloin big yes from me, planning to do the same same when raising the floor in our porch.

@tc terrazzo effect? Mandarin Stone do them: https://www.mandarinstone.com/collections/porcelain-ceramic-tiles/terrazzo-effect-tiles/
We managed to get some from Gumtree for £50 which did our bathroom floor (which is absolutely tiny)
They look good and cost is low compared to legit terrazzo.

We had it inside and outside the front door when we moved to this house. Inside it was a constant source of dust and was removed when we redid the floor

We did it - it’s not really cleanable as far as I know - you can hoover obvs but after awhile the dirt gets ingrained. I need to rip ours up and put down a new bit. Part of me thinks a mat that you can easily swap would have been preferable.

Yeah I think this is my feeling - we’ll have a doormat at the front of the house and the inside coir just gets knackered and ends up being one of those jobs…

Our recessed coir mat has a 'patina' after a few months of being down (i.e. I tore a hole in it last time I took it out to de-dust it).

We have tiles in our vestibule. Generally take really muddy boots off outside, or otherwise in vestibule. Can just sweep this area and mop. Functional and clean.

Dreamy.

We have this: https://boutiquestone.co.uk/product/eccitare-terrazzo-porcelain-white
bit annoying to keep clean but looks good (IMO).

If you make the recess the right size you can easily/cheaply replace with a standard mat, we got two of these and cut them down to fit across the whole doorway and 50cm deep for utility/back door:

Was cheap and easy, but they do shed.

@Tenderloin where did you find those ceramic wall lights for cheap? The globes SCP have. Our spark cracked one when installing.

oh balls ! that was a smart move. I am not smart.

For your awareness I bought 4 of these and they have definitely all been fitted, screw marks etc. Seller was also really funny about combining shipping because they absolutely wouldn't all fit in a single box, and then of course sent them all in a single box. Zero actual material issues at all, but seems strange to claim only one was fitted in the listing, when the fact that they have makes no difference, and the price was fair either way..

Good info, thanks. They’re £50 at SCP now. Only paid £34 :/
We got a new oven with a slideaway door for our tiny galley kitchen, because it's nice to be able to stand in the kitchen when getting things out of it
