everyone who's binned it these last few days has to ride a fat bike until, say, mid-may at the very least
And full 661 pads

I haven't even left the house this morning but was careful to not fall off the turbo.

I noticed my braking distances had gone right up recently but good to know it’s the roads at fault and not the shit Schwalbe Black Jack wheelchair tyre I stuck on the back. Hashtag costofcyclingcrisis

I made it safe and sound and had a nice ride in in the drizzle.
I've taken to wearing normal clothes for my 12 mileish commute - particularly when the temp is in the 5 to 10 degree range as find I can take it easy and limit any perspiration to minimal. However, when it's rainy like today that's not an option - wet thighs in jeans is the worst - so it's back to some lycra. Always amazed how a switch flicks and suddenly I'm sprinting up the hills and pushing threshold power on the straights just because of my new aero attire. Was still super chilled through traffic and, given everything, very cautious round bends, but also found I had to work double hard to maintain zen - likely due to higher heart rate.
Could be worth a study - the impact of clothing choices on cyclist behaviour.

Fuck, I'd start commuting again if I could do that...

I notice this massively when wearing SPD shoes rather than trainers. Had to keep reminding myself to chill out on the way in this morning

I reckon LOADS of grit salt went down a couple of weeks ago. I think it has a soapy element in it.

Think I’m going to ride on snowspikes ‘til further notice

Brilliant idea. I’ve been thinking about this stuff a lot over the last few years. Even got a donkey jacket with high viz shoulder patch, had extended long sleeves for cycling in cold weather. It’s great!

Who knew this was actually the perfect bike to commute from south east to central

Just catching up on this and was about to postulate something similar.
A couple of years back I had a similar unexpected off at this time of year, just after a cold period. Like with this, a lot of people were reporting similar slips. I wondered if there was some sort of anti-caking agent mixed into the grit that gets left behind until a proper downpour clears it.
Anyway, hope you heal up fast Skully, and more importantly, hope the bike is ok.

I think it has molasses or a variant thereof. Its put into road salt to stop it from washing away.
It also means that sheep will lick the road cos they like the taste. -

how's everyone various injuries?
bruises must be pretty colourful now I guess?
maybe a lufguss jazziest bruise competition is on the cards?in other commuting news, I pulled up next to a chap I'd been following for a couple of miles this evening and had a word about his twin mega flashy 1.21 jigawatt rear lights arrangement.
I suggested that he should stand behind his bike when he got wherever he was going to see just how fucking horrible they were. (he had the same setup on the front, fuck knows how he could see where he was going on unlit bits)
his justification, it's either that or get run over.
I don't think so pal. more likely to get run over after you've induced a fit or blinded someone.did feel a bit preachy though.

I'd considered doing the same the last few evenings, try out some of this non violent communication I've heard about. Usually end up just fuming quietly and muttering to myself about what selfish cunts they are. Good on you for having a polite word, he was probably being defensive at the time but you never know, maybe he's given it a bit of thought now

Slipping on ice in December, when walking with kids, is another grand way to avoid any future fallings.
Can make you a bit fat though

This is crazy, must be the time of year. Last monday I lost the back wheel but managed to stay upright, when I uploaded my ride, it had my ride the same day 4 years ago
