So, finally have our design for the world's smallest 1930s galley kitchen locked in.
Have gone with IKEA cabinets, IKEA fridge and dishwasher, Miele cooker hood & small Lacanche Range.
Really struggled to get it all in as, since the boiler was moved to the kitchen, the fridge was moved to the lounge. Pretty much all heating pipes need to be moved and house rewired as they come up beind where the oven will go.

We were thinking of getting a large pull out bin like this, rather than the small under sink ones, I know it's a decent chunk of cupboard space but seemed much more practical. Unless anyone thinks its a totally stupid idea?

This is a game changer. Do it.

Great idea for the space, we use the back one with a binbag for general waste, and the front one without, for mixed recycling. The front is used for the recycling because it fills up twice (or more) as quickly as the general waste, so gets emptied more often. Also this frees up under sink space for junk (or a Quooker and junk), wouldn't look back.

The validation I needed. Thanks folks đź«‚

Hey! this is what we had planned for our reveals (before we had a load of damp), looks amazing! is this normal ply?

The hot debate round our ends is whether we go pull out or freestanding.
Such an exciting life.

I have one. It's good. Much neater than a bin out in the kitchen.
Also you can get loads of different sizes, I got a 500mm wide one to fit in a smaller cupboard. Did have an issue that the cupboard wasn't quite deep enough though, needed to chop a bit out of the back.

Yeah pullout is the way to go

I've got one of those. It's great.

Yeah we have one of the Brabantia Bo Touch bins which would no be surplus to requirements which seems a little wasteful but think built in seems much nicer/neater

Douglas fir ply yeh - though these aren’t quite finished but give a good idea of what it will be like. We costed solid Doug fir and given the number of reveals and cabinetry it would’ve blown our budget

I use the front for general waste so I can just sweep stuff off the worktop.

Looks a similar size to my last one, is there anyway to make the centre of the tall side a worktop too? So tall either side but worktop in the middle, that’ll make a massive difference imo.
Also tallest wall mounted cabinets possible!
Oh and get an oven which has a door that slides under and away when open. -

Snap - I do exactly the same, just open it out far enough for worktop debris to be wiped into the back bin, excellent lazy living solution. I also cook with it open and it's ace, tomato tins etc straight into recycling, general waste just behind it.

i didn't know these ovens were a thing until now
I went on the Neff website to see what it was like and their advert for it is all about playful use of the kitchen - i can't help but feel they've totally misunderstood what the appeal is! Nobody wants to leave their oven door open for any length of time for fun - it's a space saving purpose only, surely?

get an oven which has a door that slides under and away when open
Have never had one of these but don't understand the appeal - what am I missing?
-
• #5719
if you've never had a chest-height oven, it may never have come up – but children run through kitchens, and oven doors have sharp corners
-
• #5720
I guess, but how much time is your oven door open for? I only ever open it, chuck things in and close it again - hard to imagine it ever needing to be open for long enough to tuck the door away
-
• #5721
shrug in the scenario i was referring to, I was the child. I guess its stuck with me, so I kind of like the idea. Not fancy enough for a chest height oven myself though so its kind of moot
-
• #5722
Ha - fair enough. I just think of more times I've used a folded down door as a useful tray rather than risked running into one

A galley kitchen probably

Imagine serving up a roast...

In a small kitchen they are good for access. And my mum finds it useful as there's less bending over/forward with a heavy pot.
I use mine as a shelf so don't want to pay the premium for hide and slide. Plus it's neff only.
Yeah, we'll add it to the 'when we have money again lol yeah right' column
