I use the front for general waste so I can just sweep stuff off the worktop.

Snap - I do exactly the same, just open it out far enough for worktop debris to be wiped into the back bin, excellent lazy living solution. I also cook with it open and it's ace, tomato tins etc straight into recycling, general waste just behind it.
