That's a brilliant idea - it hadn't occurred to me to check out the library! You're right that I'm not in the UK but Singapore has a library service and I can use their audiobook app, which I'm going to download right now! Thanks so much.

Nobody's going to be impressed if you've done them all with just the one crayon again.

I don’t need to do audiobooks at this point, but all my ebooks come from the library. Highly recommended, although obviously not all the latest will be available and you will have to put holds on popular ones.

Currently Enjoying Fingers Crossed by Miki Berenyi.
Autobiography of the Singer from Lush.
Pretty harrowing, and at the same time funny -

Shout out to The Perfect Golden Circle by Ben Myers. Lovely story, two fellas creating crop circles in the late 80s. Way more to it but wouldn't want to ruin the story for anyone who might read it.

Just finished. It's certainly made me re-evaluate my opinion of the royal family.

I quite enjoyed Annihilation. Agreed that it's terribly written though. Definitely don't bother with either of the sequels. The film is worth a watch, it has a similar creepy feeling and is quite well made.
Alternatively just watch Stalker by Tarkosky. Based on Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers which has a very similar storyline to Annihilation.

I really need to stop being lazy and figure it out for myself! I definitely got the idea from someone in this thread but haven't got round to trying it out yet.

You could use cameo.com - although it would get a little expensive after a while.

Rattling through The Last Landlady by Laura Thompson at the moment. Amazing memoir of a grandmother and the pub she ran with many terrific insights into what a pub is/should be. Recommended.

Thanks.. Tonight's reading sorted. Myers seems to have multiple authorship streams on Amazon. Crime fiction and the hauntology stuff. All good IMO.

Just finished my first audiobook (The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett), it seems maybe I like them after all. Yay for the Singapore national library and its extremely reasonably priced membership (about 30 quid including registration fee), and yay for not being in China anymore and being able to access any book I want.

Just finished Patrick Hamilton's Hangover Square and have now moved on to his The Slaves of Solitude. First was good, but this one's exceptional.

Thanks for the pointer on Perfect Golden Circle. Brilliant stuff, big detectorists vibes. Reminds me of my never realised schemes to make Uffington white horse and the Cerne Abbas Giant glow in the dark as a response to the crop circles.
Had to recommend it to the leather trench coat patchouli smelling tankard brigade at work. -

This is great, although I'd be tempted to get the actual book too

Hello everyone. I don't know why I've never found this thread until now... but as someone who owns a bookshop, I'm glad I have now. Always keen for some inspiration.
How about a little discount code for our website if anyone is interested?

Depends... are you having trouble sleeping? If so, no.
I actually got into it by the end, but I think it helps if you have a decent amount of Irish/Catholic knowledge and a more than passing acquaintance with the story of the Odyssey.
