Winspace SLC 2.0

Posted on
  • Just bought a Winspace SLC 2.0 in black with disc brake mounts. I told myself I could build it up from what I had in the spares box... which is obviously bollocks. It's nail-soup territory.

    What I've got:
Winspace SLC 2.0 XL, black, disc brake
    Winspace Seatpost
    Winspace Integrated bar/stem
    6870 di2 shifters
    R8000 rear mech
damaged 6870 front mech which I might be able to fix

Currently talking to Magene about their dual sided power meter crankset which is around 730g and can be had for around 400 euros.

Probably going for Juintech GT brakes (I do have a possibly-leaky R8070 shifter and a pair of ultegra calipers but don't want to use them at this time).

Got some 50mm deep lightbicycle wheels to go on it.

Photos when the frameset actually lands

  • Frame arrived... quick weights

Frame (XL) - approx 960g with hangers, screws, cable inners etc all on
    Fork (uncut) - 389g
    Bars (integrated) - 380g
    Seatpost - 188g

Rest of the build is now R8070 hydro disc, LB wheels, Selle Italia SLR Boost Carbon saddle

Photos when I unpack it properly

  • Keen to see some photos. Always liked the look of Winspace stuff, and the build quality seems good from what I’ve seen!

  • Yes show us!

  • Not great photos as I got lost in the bullshit of integrated bars but…

Finishing quality seems good to my untrained eye; about as good as my long-gone Cannondale and current KTM. This is the lightweight finish so the carbon is quite prominent and the logos are stickers rather than water slide. Not sure how it will age but I guess I’ll see.

  • Just popped the wheels in. Winspace say it only takes 28mm max but the 32mm on the Wheelset at the moment are totally fine (Gp5000 TL)

  • Nice frameset! Did those bars come with the frame?

  • I bargained a bit and they added them in at no extra cost.

  • The brake hose routing is optimised for external which is great if you're planning that as there are tubes running the length of the frame. Unfortunately, though, I need to rip the bastard out to get my internal hoses to work. I guess if I resell, it's someone elses problem.

  • Photos to come when I've got the crankset and chain on but given the average weight of those, it looks like a 7.2kg build without pedals and cages but 32mm tyres so around 7.3kg when I put the 25mm tyres and the rest on.

  • Current status. I think the left shifter might be shagged but it works enough to build the bike up. 7.4kg with 32mm tyres and no bar tape.

  • Looks already a bit tight with the 32mm tyres,is that the max it takes?

  • Winspace say 28mm... I've got a set of 25mm GP5000S TR to put on when the bike is complete (or in spring, maybe), the 32mm were what I had as road wheels for the gravel bike.

  • Looks lush, how does it ride?

  • Shit work week, haven't got around to finishing the brakes off so not taped etc and not ridden. Hopefully this weekend!

  • First ride longer than up and down the road today. First impressions really good. Pretty stiff compared to my KTM, even with 32mm tyres. Lightweight but doesn't feel fragile, steering is good. Need to get some longer rides in but happy so far

  • Any update?
What can you say about ride quality?
Is it comfortable? Is it good for long rides.
Someone says that the frame lacks lateral rigidity, and their tire could rub the chainstay, what do you think about it?
    Thank you very much.

  • Can't say I've had any issue. I've got 32mm tyres rather than the 28mm they recommend as maximum but have no problems with clearance. The rim brake is QR rather than a thru-axle so maybe that's a little less rigid but I couldn't say as I've never even seen one, let alone ridden one.

Happy with the bike, it's quick enough, light enough and feels stable so I'm happy.

  • Thank you very much
