Does Audio MIDI Setup (system app) show them as a possible audio output device?

Headphones are connected, but the MBA cannot see them as an audio output/input device.
Any ideas?
I don't want to be the 'have you turned if off and on again guy', however, have you tried deleting the bluetooth pairing and then re-pairing? I've got a pair of Sony WH-CF500 and had to do that with them to solve some connection issues this week on all of my Apple stuff.
