  • Bought another watch yesterday, will post pictures when it arrives, I think it should go well with the BB58 I have.

A Hanhart 417 ES Reverse Panda Flyback, was a slightly used one so had about £400 off list and should arrive tomorrow and looking forward to it, then this should be done for me. (He says) Have been looking at them for weeks and kept going back to them, in my head I have spent the same as just getting a speedy but I have 2 watches which can be rotated and also worn for different occasions, plus I did own one previously and sold it rather than trying to work out how to keep it when balancing the books so we will see........

Will put the 417 on a nato too

  • They looks great! maybe a lil thik boi though

  • Yeah, they have a very "rigorous" kind of minimalism to them, with the case shape and everything, and basically no finishing. Also their straps don't taper, and that combined with some sharp CNCd edges mean they're maybe not the most ergonomic watches, but I think for the 36mm ones they'd be fine if you put a soft enough strap on them.

But from a design point of view I think they're fascinating - Ochs specialises in adding complications to base calibers with the minimum number of extra parts and visually they're refreshingly different & modern.

A 36mm black dial one with stick markers (like the one above) is definitely on my hit list.

  • they make a lovely annual calendar

  • Trying a different watch face today.

  • Of all the threads you had the choice of, this one is the obvious choice.

  • Such lols

  • I've DM'd you my sort code and account number. If you could drop in a few large ones, I'd be much obliged.

  • Saying Nomos have shot up seems a bit of an understatement. I had no idea they'd gone so mad. They were always a hmm maybe option at £1200-1500 they've almost doubled.

  • Well, the ones with the older hand-wound Alpha caliber still start around £1300. But anything with the Neomatik is now double that at least, and they're competing with Tudor in the £2500-£3000 range.

It's a bit like Oris where you get used to them being in the £1000-1500 range, and then they introduce a new caliber and they want three grand, and there's some cognitive dissonance there to say the least.

Nomos should get credit for their in-house movements tbh. And I think if you really want the Nomos thing, Nomos are almost the only option. The problem I have with them is you look at them IRL, and they look nice, but maybe not like three grand watches. But then again, what even is value in watches anymore.

  • They’re very much not £3k watches. They looked slightly dear compared to Hamilton and the like when they were ~£800 for manual and ~£1300 for automatic.

  • How do you find it? Can you still trade them in for a proper carrera?

  • I like it. It makes a nice, everyday watch. And today, the smarts helped me not miss an important phone call when I left my phone on my desk!

Haven’t looked at trading, to be honest. At the risk of Golf Club inclusion, I’d probably just buy a Carrera and add to the little collection.

I’m pretty happy with what I have though.

  • Is anyone keen on the Hamilton before I put it on eBay? Box and papers, but no original strap as they’re too small for me. Will come on this nato.

  • Lolz

    Been a minute

  • All this. Originally the in house calibers were what a £500 uplift on the bought in movements.

At this point I'll never buy a new watch again it's worse than buying a new car. I can think of any Wath I want enough to part with a significant chunk of my mortgage. I think I'd rather spend it on wine and I don't even drink that much.

  • Life’s a bit mental since December. Hopefully better times ahead 😬

  • Couple of phone pics from this evenings T4AP…
