Wow yeah that is seriously nice. The bars I ordered turned up today. Not strictly porteur but maybe close enough? They do look very nice though maybe I should reconsider. And I’m thinking I’ll need a slightly longer stem by the looks of it

I’ll wrap the bars in tape once I’ve got the stem/bar fit right for the rider, lock ons for the time being

I’ve gone with calliper brakes as those are the only ones with enough drop to cater for the 700c wheels.
People on eBay are charging £2 per headset spacer!!! Will try my lbs, Bristol bike project 🙂

I used left over 1-1/8 steerer tube as spacer for a 1 inch threadless headset, I imagine this would also work on a 1 inch threaded steerer. If no luck with your LBS, I can see if I've got more and cut you a 5mm bit from it?

Thanks for the offer!!
That’s very neat. What’s the wee hole for?

What’s the wee hole for?
I brazed a nut so that I could mount a bell. The only time I managed to braze something properly-ish

Most bits are now here but I spent this evening cursing as the tyres are so damn tight to get on that I punctured three brand new tubes and still haven’t managed to do the rear yet 😖😖😖 back to the lbs for patches tomorrow I guess.
I did get a 1” spacer but it looks a bit weird as the outer diameter is quite narrow compared to the hs

I’m not convinced by this bar stem combo but I’m trying to put the rider’s wants for the position over my own preconceptions about what a bike should look like. God knows how it will handle. Potentially badly?

I never updated this but the bike is done and tbh I’ve built a lot of (shit) bikes in my time and this is the nicest one to ride. So quick. So smooth. My partner doesn’t get a look in. Went a slightly different route on gearing in the end. Some polished mudguards would complete it but spoil the ride imo.

Lovely!
I vote for mudguards! -

This bike screams for a couple mudguards and slightly bigger tires
Lovely mixte and the silver bits look great with it.
For bars there’s only one option with mixtes imo and that’s porteur style bars like on this forum gem (but with rise and not this drop pathracer look)
