  • Top new page moment there

  • ah shit man, not great then!
completely unexpected slams are the worst as you can't brace yourself.

i've had a similar slam before where my front wheel slipped out on what i thought was a perfectly dry roundabout.
had CT scans and x-rays but luckily nothing worse than a mild concussion, a few facial scabs, and a sprained wrist (i was knocked out and managed to get home but couldn't remember how)

rest up, hope you heal fast.

  • Oof, so nearly went that way down Layhams on Saturday, but ended up going the other direction at the top of Nash Lane. Sounds like a lucky escape.

Hope everyone who went down are doing ok.

  • Sounds very similar. Yep it’s so fast.

Two lovely people driving helped me. One chucked my bike in his van and drove me home. He’d lost a nephew who died after a nasty bike crash in Lewisham (lamppost) literally days ago :( That was quite a salutary moment when he told me.

@abr I was about to do exactly the same, then thought, nah I should try to ride up corkscrew as I’m really out of shape. 😬

  • There's definitely something to do with lack of rain or current conditions that are making roads treacherous.

Motorbike not pedal bike but the last few commutes have all had moments where I've felt the front scrabbling for grip at roundabouts tighter / slower corners.

Made me think there was something wrong with the tyre so did pressure & visual checks before each ride this week to make sure I'm all good.

Oh God, no. Could it be this crash?

    Do you know any more?

  • Might as well chip in: I stacked it out in the lanes near Edenbridge last week. My front wheel slipped as braked approaching a junction, wiped a load of skin off my hip and now have a massive hole in the fresh leg and arm warmers I bought 2 weeks ago FFS.

When I got up I was caked in shite and the road was slimy with mud.

Also had a minor rear wheel slip on today's commute. Take care out there folks.

  • Eesh - take care out there all and heal up quick everyone who's been down.
I rode in soooooo slowly today round every corner. And then got a puncture as an added bonus.

  • His uncle said to me the police initially thought he’d been hit-and-run, but cctv showed he’d just had a very unfortunate collision with no-one else involved.

    Terrible news.

  • It’s a lot of moisture in the air that settles it seems. Added to whatever greasy fumes that have settled recently. Reckon we need a lot of rain before it all washes off.

I thought something wrong with my brakes as the front was skittish under braking.
Been taking to testing tarmac by dragging my boot to see how it feels.

  • I saw an older guy on a mountain bike with big chunky tyres fall at this spot last Sunday, I stopped and made sure he was ok, while doing this a lady in a car stopped and said she saw a cyclist fall at the same spot hours earlier!
Sounds like maybe oil or something on the road.

  • I hope someone's reported it by now, as it clearly needs to have some cleaning done asap. It's such a popular route out, it must have affected dozens.

  • Yeah - I do that and current feeling is: fresh off the forecourt having stepped in a diesel puddle :D

  • Hope you're doing alright!

Also hit the deck hard yesterday, happened so quickly. Patmos Rd, camberwell ish.
Managed to land on the wrist that I broke when I got hit by a car last year, which is now.... sore. ffs.

  • I also came off the bike on Friday evening on a corner near Victoria Park (Sewardstone/Old Ford Rd), just as you said, like hitting an ice patch. My knee and hands took the impact, not too badly hurt, still achy though. Hope everyone else who's slipped off in the last few days gets better soon!

  • I came off last weekend too! Found it strangely slippery that day.

  • You guys still on 23c gatorskins?

  • @Pifko 32c gators, i'm modern like that

  • Came off on the roundabout by Roehampton Gate in Richmond Park last week, lots of road rash and a horrible lump on my knee that still hasn’t gone down fully. Similar thing, my wheels just slid out from under me as I was turning right on the roundabout and I hit the deck hard.

  • Pfft, you noobs. I haven’t had an off for like 4 weeks!

  • Wtf is going on

I had a freaky fall the other night near Kingston where I lost grip on the front wheel and it slid out and I came off

My colleague also had a fall riding home last night
