• Hi!

I have a new commute between Crystal Palace and Canary Wharf. Does anyone have any suggestions for a route?

I’d like to avoid Greenwich foot tunnel as it’s a bit of a faff. Is it better to head towards London Bridge and head east or battle through tower bridge?

I’d prefer fast and quick over leisurely. We have facilities at work.

    Thanks!!

  • Google maps says London Bridge but I'm also intrigued it also says you can get a ferry/river taxi from Surrey Quays to Canary Wharf.

  • I saw this but it then suggests taking the pavement to descend on to lower Thames street to catch the CS3.

Id rather not plan a route that requires that. Does anyone else here do that?

  • You don't need to, just need to make your way down Fish St Hill

  • It goes from the Hilton Hotel, and sounds a lot fancier than it is/used to be.

  • Dulwich > Peckham > Bermondsey > Tower Br > Cable St

  • If youre in a hurry/have a death wish, theres always the Rotherhithe tunnel. Would be most direct.

  • I forfeit a couple of teeth to a Mercedes on Cable street. It is mostly ok though. Just beware of junctions when travelling in the direction against the flow of traffic on the one way bit.

  • I actually cycled this by accident many years ago. Pretty sure my lungs have still not recovered from the fumes 🤮🤮

  • Thanks! Cycled it a few times. Agree - requires a bit of vigilance!

    Pretty much what Skully said

  • Thank you!

I don’t know that site. Thanks for the heads up

  • My commute is Penge - Canning Town so not too far off yours. I always take the Waterlink Way through Catford, Lewisham, Deptford etc all the way up until the Greenwich Foot Tunnel. It might not be the most direct route but it's by far the nicest I've found. More or less all away from traffic which is much nicer and feels quicker!

  • Thank you! I didn’t know that existed. Il have to try it out!

  • It's a lot more chilled out than any other route I've found and takes about the same amount of time (from me anyway). Just watch out for dogs!

  • IMO the foot tunnel is the best option, another route adds more miles and takes longer. Also I hate the Tower Bridge junction on a bike.

It's a big if, but if the lifts are working the Foot tunnel isn't too bad.

I'd go down to Sydenham, then down Silverdale to Forest Hill, cross the South Circular using the shared crossing onto Stanstead Road then follow the cycle route to Crofton Park station. Go down Brockley Road for a bit then up Wickham Road to Deptford.

Cut through Broadway Fields to avoid the Deptford junction then down Greenwich High Road, foot tunnel then up to Canary Wharf.

  • The water link way is the best suggestion.
Go to Silverdale in Sydenham, turn right around mayow park. Turn right down adamsrill. Turn right. Over the bell green junction, back of sainos, left. And then waterlink way, Catford bridge, glass mill, Deptford, foot tunnel.

  • I’ve tried a couple of ways to glass mill and wavelengths pools in Lewisham and Deptford with kids, and the waterlink way is great.

  • @Chalfie @SRAMbo thanks for all the responses!
