what are the atac's of choice at the momen/generally? Are XC2 decent?

Sorry for the dredge but does anyone have experience/know if you can interchange atac and crank brother recessed cleats? I've UTFS but nothing useful came up. I've been running atacs for years but just bought some doubleshot 1 pedals for a bike both my wife and I ride. I'm not convinced the atac cleats will fit but wondering if I could fit the crank brother cleats and use them on my other bikes... Don't really want a specific pair of shoes for the one bike. Thanks!
Edit: Didn't trawl enough through the search results, seems like crank brother cleats will work in atac pedals. @NurseHolliday any chance you could confirm if it worked out for you?

I think the post you're referring to is about cleat bolts, which should indeed be mostly identical across brands.
No idea about Crank Brothers and ATAC cleat compatibility but I'd be surprised if they were. Give it a try?

I would guess that crank brothers cleats might engage “ok” in ATAC pedals, but I wouldn’t try it the other way around. Are you having trouble sourcing cleats, or is it for another reason that you want to try it?

I haven't ridden flats in about 20 years but a new family cargo bike means I need to share a bike with my wife. Flat's are fine for the 2km into the town centre but when I'm going further I miss the clipless efficiency and find my shoes slipping around on the current pedals.
I'm having trouble sourcing a Time pedal that is one side clipless (my requirement), one side flat and made out of plastic (my wife's requirements). I bought some double shot 1 pedals and am hoping to not have to convert my own 3 bikes over to crank brothers as well. Or need another pair of cycling shoes.

Time ATAC Link available at CRC, or MKS Urban Step-in A showing available at Compton cycles (though not plastic). EZY version supplied from Japan. Or second hand MKS here still?: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/331675/
Have had similar thoughts so interested in how you get on.
Edit: hadn't noticed you'd already bought the Crankbrother equivalent. -

Has anyone had any luck servicing a pair of Look S Track pedals? Mine are crunchy af. After a quick Google it seems like it's probably going to be a pain in the arse to do. I've got some decent miles out of them so happy enough to swap them to my rat bike and get a new set if it's going to be more hassle than it's worth to sort them out.

Has anyone used Look X Tracks? My S Tracks (a different set to the ones mentioned above 3 years ago) are coming to the end of their life and I don't want to replace them with something equally unserviceable so wondering if the X Track might have the benefits of the nice float of the S Track whilst having replaceable bearings.
Failing that, is there much of a functional difference between budget Shimano SPDs and higher end stuff? Or are you just paying for reduced weight?

The latter
My M520 are lasting forever, 13 years to date

I've had a few rides with SPDs now. They sort of feel like they don't hold the cleats as solidly as the S Tracks and Atacs I'm used to. As if there's a tiny bit of movement when I pull my foot up. They still clip in and out solidly and I've not accidentally come unclipped or anything, riding fixed, just slightly disconcerting because I'm not used to it I think. Would adjusting the tension make a difference or is that just how they're supposed to feel? They're already slightly trickier to clip in and out of than my previous pedals so don't want to increase the tension if it's not going to make any difference.

I've always found SPD's feel less secure and solid than atacs, but it's not a big problem. I suspect that's just how they are and adjusting the tension is unlikely to make a difference. As Time quality control went downhill I've been happy to go back to SPD's. I have 520s on my fixed beater and their great. The Look X Track Race pedals I have on my other bike probably feel slightly better all round but the difference isn't massive.

X tracks feel more solid than my old shimano, no vertical movement, just the float

Thanks for the reply! I'll see if I get used to them, good to know it's not really an issue beyond the feel of them.
Interesting. Wonder if anyone will be producing more cleat variants. Would for sure try a 10°-release one for example.
