  • It wasn't dry and properly stuck to the plaster so the roller lifted the paint off. Happens more often if you are going over the same patch too often. It looks to me like you are trying to get coverage too quickly. Better to build it up in thin coats than try and load it on.

    There are so many different elements to decorating, if I stood in that room I'd be getting a read on the humidity, temperature, how much has the plaster cured etc. Then I'd be picking a roller depending on how well I think the paints is going to stick.

    Essentially what you have there is a damp patch.
