As a PTJ jacket fan for the same lazy reasons, I've replaced it with the Brevet Infinium Jersey. Insulation on the inside means you can go from no baselayer for warmer commutes all the way to deep winter base layer for minus temps. With the added bonus that if you get caught in a heavy shower it will keep you drier than the OG PTJ.

Interesting, thanks. May keep an eye on the Albion then. I guess Rapha’s summer wear is poly, so can see that making sense in v warm weather. Seems Rapha is moving away from merino more broadly anyway

Has anyone ridden Rapha’s Manchester to London event? I got the email flyer about an hour after me and mates had to cancel a weekend of cycling in Wales.
Same date so I am now thinking of riding Manchester to London instead. But only if it’s any good!

Okay that's useful thank you. I feel like at that price though I'd rather get an Albion Insulated Zoa and save £75.
That would work right @youramericanlover?

Nah you'd be way too hot. Zoa is more off the bike than on, or rolling v slow when it's fucking COLD.
If you've ready got the albion stuff but are looking for a jacket skinny (and scoot) are not wrong, another softshell would work, esp for commuting. Maap had some for £100 on sale, or you could go onto Sport Pursuit and see what rapha pro team winter jacket / training thingy permutation they have on sale

Not sure that any of our trailbuilding crew would wear these when building berms, clearing drainage ditches, scratching new lines, filling braking bumps etc

Pro team jerseys - I'm finding that if the body is a good fit, the cuffs are a bit loose. Sizing down would be a stretch on the body.
Thought I was a normal size but maybe not? Or do I just need to quit wearing cycling jerseys and carry on riding in t shirts...

Rapha have a target profit margin on every item, same as every other brand.
They price their products to hit this margin. There is never a product that they buy for £5 and sell for £165. It’s not good business, they’re not supreme and they would sell more if it was cheaper.
If the price is £165 it has cost them the same X% as every other one of their products to make.
Primark will have the same although they will be happy with a tiny margin on huge quantities of low quality shit. -

Rapha seem to be taking 4 days and counting to even process an order at the moment, never mind send it out. Still, they quickly sent out an email telling me how to look after what I have ordered, so I can peruse that in the meantime.
That Brain Dead stuff is completely gash.

Anyone handled the explore pants? Curious how thick they are compared with the trail light.

£11 👌

Do you really believe this?
If the big P can do cargos for £11 why would Rapha's production costs be so different?
As someone who's laughed at the faux heritage and second wave materials of the range since the beginning I think that the cargo trousers really sum up the age we live in. R***** have always just been a lifestyle brand. Now that the original owners have cashed in, the race to the bottom begins.

You ever touched primary stuff?
I am not a fabrics expert or anything, but for reasonable efforts I found merino mix or merino jerseys way too heavy, too hot in mild weather and hard to layer on top of as they don't breathe as well as poly, and so got heated out or sweaty mess into icy cool-down. Maybe that's why merino is the go-to for baselayers, because they trap heat but evaporate better than cotton. Poly is more breathable and evaporates better than merino. Albion jersey is really soft, lightly thick and so paired with the super breathable but somehow v warm gilet it's a very effective combo.
