  • I don't think I had seen that doc. I'm going to have a good look at it when I have some time.

  • What are people using for digitising their vinyl? I have a bunch of stuff that isn't available on streaming. I'm using a Griffin imic that I've had for a while, with the results being 'ok'. Are some of the more modern devices from companies like Behringer (UFO202/UCA222) going to be noticeably better?

  • The contemporary audio interfaces are generally better. It's worth looking at second hand interfaces from companies like RME, Motu, Focusrite, Apogee etc.

Just realised the Behringer you're looking at is still very cheap. I've not used an interface of that type since the imic so it's hard to know what to expect.

  • I bought one of those Beringer ADCs a couple of weeks ago but haven't used it yet. If I get a chance over the next few days I'll let you know how I get on

  • I’ve got a nice Mastersounds rotary mixer hooked up to a 1210, and for ripping I swap in a Goldring E3 cartridge from my usual AT dj carts. Then out of the mixer into a Focusrite Scarlet and out into Audacity.

I don’t fuss over it too much but I do the high pass and normalise steps from the Audacity ripping guidelines.

It’s not perfect or audiophile in any way but the flacs Audacity puts out sound great if the record was in good nick.

  • The UCA isn't for Phono BTW. I looked into getting a UFO recently as it's USB powered and I could run it from my amp, but a few reviews said "it's a £20 ADC" which put me off if it isn't going to improve anything. Nad also do an interface.

  • Does anyone have any experience with Technics direct drive turntables not holding speed? Mine all of a sudden is too fast, it's got quartz lock so doesn't have pots to trim the speed, at least that are accessible without dismantling.

    • All sorted, the pots just needed cleaning.
  • Anyone got a go-to supplier of replacement inner and outer sleeves? Want to get 50-75 and know that the inners fit the outers.

  • I've used covers33 before and I think they were pretty good.

  • covers33 here too.

  • Thanks both 👍

  • Spooky, the speed on one of my 1210s has just started wandering. I moved the pitch control up and down a few times and it seemed to sort it. I will look at cleaning the sliding pots to start with.

  • If you're going to open it up it should have a pot for the master pitch adjustment on the PCB. And WD40 contact cleaner has PTFE if you're looking to lubricate as well. Pretty much most of the malfunctions on Technics decks can be resolved by cleaning it seems.

  • Might be dumb question but I've just had a test pressing through the door. It's Horace Andy/Cultural Warriors "Money".
I've not owned a test pressing before. There's no identifying labels or anything on it. How do people label them? Not a problem now as I only have 1. Get the sharpie out?

  • I have a few and they all arrived with hand written centre labels and / or a test label on the sleeve too.

If you're not precious about it then write on the label, if you are then grab plastic sleeve and stick a sticker on that with the details.

    Couple of recent ones:

  • I usually keep the printed receipt inbetween the outer sleeve and the inner sleeve.

  • ^^ Notice the Sam Wilkes one was actually a fail. One of the tracks was pressed onto each side hence the custom Ditto stamp.

  • I’m not precious about them and get the coloured pens out when they’re spinning for a trippy spiral effect

  • That's the way to handle this situation 👍

  • Just saw this on reddit and thought they were pretty cool -

  • Reading their Kickstarter comments, they haven’t delivered backer Wheel 1s from 2017.

Lovely design but you’d be insane to give them any money, let alone €2k.

  • Special offer on resealable sleeves here, I am not a fan of resealable sleeves but if you are they are a good price.

£10 for 50 and free postage over £20

I like the spincare sleeves, I find the audiophile inners fit better than others I have tried.

  • That doesn't float my boat at all, but it's nice to see that linear tracking isn't dead. £2k is pretty steep for something gimmicky.

  • Picked up a set of 1210mk2's recently to give mixing a go. Need to replace the needles and would appreciate some advice or recommendations.

Currently got a Nagaoka mp30 which needs to be replaced along with original headshell. £60 for just the needle. The decks came with technics heads and stanton cartridges, one needle sounds good enough to use briefly while the other is toast. Plan is to learn how to mix properly and get a few gigs here and there if all goes well, no heavy scratching/ hip hop don't stop vibes, just bits of reggae, disco, funk, cumbia so light backcueing..

Undecided wether to just buy a set of Ortofon Club mk2 for £220 or a new mp110 needle and another Mp110 Cart/stylus/headshell for £165? Then sell the stanton cartridges and technics heads on ebay to help with the costs.

This guy - https://floriankeller.net/perfrect-dj-cartridge/ seems to give a pretty indepth review of actually DJ'in with them and inclined to believe him

  • I've used the MP-110 extensively on an SP1200 for needledrops, it's decent. I wouldn't have thought it would do better than the dj specific cartridges for dj'ing though. I'm still a big fan of the Stanton for dj'ing, they're brilliant at dance music especially 45's. MP-110 excels for different genres.
