Cool project, love a good neo retro project and I’m curious what you have planned for the repaint.
About those chainstays - quote from Luescher:
I remember when I first saw these bikes … I’m thinking, how are they gonna mould that properly. Now we know - they don’t mould them properly.

Love these frames. Subscribed for the respray cliffhanger.

+1 for not respraying

Big expectation for the respray, neon Art Decor madness please. Either that or keep the frame as is and get the Record groupset red highlights colour matched to the orange on the frame?

This is going to be so good, looks a big beauty too.
I’m with the “don’t respray” view, especially as it looks to be in great condition

Think we’re up to about 84 people now. Pls don’t spray.

I’m part of the silent majority, do what you want with it.
It’s not like Colnago have a history of understated paint schemes.

I’m another in the don’t spray camp*
*unless it is as lairy as fuck and then spray away!

Rabo Art Decor if you respray.
Casino yellow and white is nice and bright too. Leuschner might not approve of the chainstays but I never saw one break. -
• #14
Yes, should have mentioned he calls them a gimmick, not a hazard.

I say respray! Mapei or complete local graffiti artist rattle can.

• #16
Finished until I get the funds for the respray.

Love it - even without a respray!
Those chainstays are so unnecessarily complicated 🥰🥰🥰
I've wanted a classic Colnago since my dad got one in the early nineties. So when eBay alerted me that one had finally come up for sale in my size I jumped at the opportunity. Due to an unlikely array of factors, I managed to swap this for something else leaving me £0 out of pocket.
I've stupidly entered another Ironman this year despite my angry arthritic joints so I need a suitable steed to compete on. This has led me away from the period-correct build and towards a modern revamp. Much to my father's disgust. My to aversion saving money led me to the decision to rebuild this with Campagnolo Record (12 speed). The finishing kit is going to be whatever else I can afford.
One last thing. I'm going to have it resprayed. I'm not a fan of black bikes and have a plan to make it classically garish delight.
