  • White Noise.
I haven't read the book, but it seems like a very good effort at making a screen rendition of difficult source material. Its good seeing people make weird movies instead of franchise shite. I really liked how the tone shifted all over, but felt the pacing was a bit strange. Some bits dragged, and others raced through. Maybe that was purposeful? Film weenies will love it. 3.5/5.

  • Fudge, chocolate raisins, those fake smarties, fudge with chocolate over it...and no more chocolate brasils available 😞

  • Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom.

Bhutanese film about a teacher who has to spend a year working in the world's remotest school.
    Excellent stuff, a solid 8/10.

  • Am i being harsh/blinkered or were films generally a bit shit around then?

I should have added "Lone Star" to my list. Except that's a film I missed the chance to see when it came out and it's only an accident of coincidence that led me to watch it at the weekend and rectify my mistake.

Fuck me, that's a film and a half.

  • Wait, going back a few pages...

How did nobody mention American Psycho?

  • Yes yes yes! I saw it in the cinema when it came out and it really made an impression. It took me
years to figure out that John Sayles also made Brother from another Planet which I only caught on TV and didn't know the title of but never forgot.

  • it really made an impression

Not many films cause me to just sit and reflect for a while after the credits roll, but that was one of them.

John Sayles also made Brother from another Planet

Ha, yes. He had quite the oeuvre.

  • I thought the book was one that wouldn’t work as a film but it’s really good, by far the best screen BEE

  • I watched this and I don't regret it one bit

  • That looks excellent, will add to my list.

But it's 96 so my science stands up

  • Oh my god this looks incredible

  • Couldn’t decide what to watch last night and ‘Black Sea’ was showing as a popular one on Netflix. I’d never heard of it before, but it was surprisingly watchable and entertaining, if you can look past Jude Law’s dreadful accent.

  • Just watched 'Living', Bill Nighy is wonderful in it, and it's a lovely film (can't really think of a better way to describe it).

  • Finally got around to watching ‘All quiet on the Western Front’ wow, loving the Black Sabbath inspired soundtrack.

7 BAFTA’s for a film not in Engerlish.. quite an achievement.

  • Yes, about war. The only other way a German film could so well would be if it was about the 1966 World Cup final.

  • Finally saw “The Room” so excruciatingly bad it’s quite wonderful. This is after watching the Disaster Artist and reading/hearing a lot about it. Was with a friend who has watched it many many times.

  • Yes, about war. The only other way a German film could so well would be if it was about the 1966 World Cup final.

11,000 casualties in the final six hours of the war, all of whom could have been spared.

Your comment is somewhat mean spirited.

  • I had to watch it in stages. It's fucking grim, obvz.

The scene in the crater when the main protagonist is fighting for his life was just desperate. I couldn't bear to watch it.

Having said all that, it was fantastic. I thought the score lent alot to the whole atmosphere.

  • Of course it’s grim. published 95 years ago, sold 2.5 million copies in 22 languages in its first 18 months in print.

As anti war stories go, still the best.

  • Mean spirited? Give over. I am sure the war in Ukraine has also played a part in the film being popular and lauded but it's not a great film - authentic looking and grim battle scenes, for sure, but the rest is flat and schematic. It's either the greatest foreign language film of recent times or there's some other reasons for the attention. Still, it was a lot better than 1917 or Dunkirk.

  • Anyone else catch Bull on Friday night? Neil Maskell upping the intensity from Kill List in a quality low budget revenge thriller.

  • I saw it when it first came out and really liked it. A very menacing atmosphere through the whole film.

  • Sharper.

Utterly predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless. Julianne Moore steals the show.

    Soundtrack is a banger.

  • 'The Whale' fucking destroyed me last night. Stirred up a lot of emotions regarding my own life and I cried for about an hour.
I thought it was a great film though, and Brendan Fraser was fantastic in the role.

  • I really liked the film, but the poster is fucking horrible! 😂
