Which Tyres?

  • I'm in the same boat. I've had various flavours of GK on 3 different bikes over the last couple of years, all with inner tubes, and had something like 2 or 3 punctures in that time. They ride a lot nicer (if slightly slower) than the Vittorias I replaced the worn out pair on my road bike with.

  • From what I've seen with a few pairs of the basic GK SK over the last few years in 11 different countries, they seem pretty durable otherwise, but they can be weak against glass and the sharp crushed stone that is spread on icy bikepaths in Finland. I've had four or five flats with them that I had to plug. Never problems with sidewalls. Reinstalling old ones can be frusturating as they stretch over time and don't want to snap back onto the rims. Haven't tried the slicks or the Plus'

  • Are Challenge Strada SC S any good? I got some cheap ones

  • I got some cheap ones

Surely you're best placed to answer that question, then :)

  • They haven't arrived yet. I got the last ones in stock and thought if they're no good I'll return them

There are some reviews for other constructions but not the SC S. They are cotton though

  • Anyone tried Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H tyres? Looking for some tyres for my wife's gravel bike and have clearance around for around 40mm. Ideally, something tan wall, robust, grippy and not super slow on the road. Any other suggestions welcome.

  • I like Schwalbe G One Bite a lot. I ride everything on them, albeit on 45c.

  • Very fast and lovely ride, but they’re a summer race tyre. 25mm came up as 27mm on 17c internal rims. Perhaps bad luck but I had a spate of punctures with mine as the tread wore, so got fed up and binned them. As a tyre they’re very similar to vittoria corsa sc.

  • Best option out there.

  • worried about getting punctures.

Teach a woman to fish fix puncture...

Marathon Plus are pretty heavy duty. If she's only doing 15mi at a time make her life a bit easier with some Durano Plus or Durano even? But doesn't matter what tyre you have, being able to fix a puncture when it inevitably happens is useful and if it's a social ride, they're gonna wait, right?

  • Hi! Any good touring tyres with gumwall. I think they're beautiful, but going on a very very long tour. So need to be durable! Thanks x

  • Panaracer pacela is 1.75” cheap and good
Rene herse endurance does a 1.8mm expensive and good
Gravelking does a 2.1” medium price and good, not as durable as the two above.

  • Does anyone know if the studs unscrew on Schwalbe Winter HS396 ice tyres? They look like the only knobby (ish) 40x635 tyres out there that aren’t £££££. Thought they may be worth a punt for the Guv’nor Grav Grav build.

  • I don't know what version I have but those were fixed

  • Ta, I think it’s worth a try. Worst that could happen is I’ll have a Guv’nor for icy days I guess.

  • I’m liking my WTB resolutes when riding but the rear has punctured/ split and not sealed. The second is struggling to retain air with a plug. This has happened on the last two outings. Just misfortune or a bit delicate?

  • Did you get the standard version of the SG2 versions? I think the base ones are a little fragile. Personally I don't think you can beat Pirelli Cinturato for all round dependable gravel tyres.

  • Sorry missed this before. Is the SG2 a bit better?
Pirelli seem to do a variety under the Cinturato Model..?

  • Yeah the SG2 is an added protection belt.

Cinturato M is pretty good all year round the H is really fast but dry and firm conditions really. I have the M version and have found it bombproof, comfy and pretty fast and capable in most stuff.

  • Ok thanks. Do they make the SG2 in tan?

  • Are there any Gravelking haters out there looking to shift a pair of 700x35c slicks by any chance? Alternatively, any suggestions for something else in that flavour for a commuter that I still want to enjoy riding? I can't really justify spending £100 on a pair of tyres for this bike (the frame was half that) so mostly looking for budget options.

  • Probably owe you, I have a GP4000 little use you can have, suspect it’s a 28

  • That's very kind but I'm after 32c minimum! Thanks for the offer though.
